Has anyone else came across that news article on the in-game internet? (If you haven't found it yet keep flipping through news stories after unlocking alderney)

It has all this crap on urban legends such as a whale in middle park, alligators and random urban equvilents of the san andreas myths.

I think people are just trying to start myths to match the ones that we had in San Andreas. lol Good luck with that! The problem is that Liberty City is a pretty closed and tight system. There aren't a lot of glitches, and the area isn't as large as San Andreas. There also aren't dark and mysterious landscapes containing forests and desolate terrain with spooky surroundings where myths like Bigfoot can be born. In addition there are no secret laboratories with possible alien technology.

Nothing wrong with Liberty City. It just doesn't lend itself to viable myths like San Andreas did. Most of the so called myths, in my opinion at least, are just Internet people trying too hard.

The one interesting myth I came across on the internet is the so called "Ratman". Apparently some people have encountered a ped in the darkest parts of the subway. If you get near him, he screams "I am Ratman!" and runs away, too fast to catch up with him.
But I dunno if this isn't just a bunch of lies. I read some encounters, but the descriptions vary. Some said its smaller than a ped, and that you have to turn the radio off to hear him. Other say that he is as big as a ped, with rat face, long hair and a tail. Others claim to have seen him run by in a dark alley.

Of course, there's no pictures. Which is no wonder, since he is said to run away faster than any car. Which makes you wonder if the guy who made that up (if its made up), said that deliberately to make sure that he wouldn't need to show any pics as proof.

The funny thing is, I even read about this on some sites for easter eggs, which made me wonder if this is actually true. But I sure won't be searching unless there is proof.

Or, this is all just the start of another Bigfoot...

GTA 4 is a virtual playground, just as much as any of the other GTA titles so there's plenty of room to discover but I'm gonna vote that the 'ratman' is all lies.
Rockstar do have a definite reputation for being cheeky and since discovering the beating heart in the statue, I am still roaming around looking for weirdness.
I'm so glad I discovered the beating heart before I read any forums about it but it's so big it's hard to miss! And strangely, it does demean the realism that Rockstar were obviously trying to capture to have weird eggs like that.
I give them more credit than a 'ratman' although rats do fit the 'new york' theme nicely, 'The Heart Of Liberty City' at least has a literal excuse for being in the game.
Rockstar always seem to have the last laugh that's for sure.

I'm sure there are plenty of discoveries to be uncovered, mr gta. I just don't think that we will have the same level of mythology in this game. That isn't a bad thing, it's just that a city as glitch-free and tight as LC in GTA IV is not likely to produce a whole lot of myths. There will definitely be some, like Rat-Man, but I have the feeling that there are more undiscovered Easter Eggs in this game than there will be myths.

I spend time running around the subway without seeing anyone, except at the stations. It took about 30 minutes to run around the Alconquin's subway track. The only place I can think of finding Ratman, would be the area where the rails from Bohan join the ones in Alconquin.

Well, of course we wont find a Bigfoot in Liberty City, that wouldn't really fit. AFAIK, there haven't been any sightings of the real Bigfoot in populated cities like NY, so it wouldn't make any sense if Bigfoot was in that game.
Unfortunately, as I have seen, this does not stop people from making "ZOMG! I HAV FOUND BIGFOOT" threads. Just wonder who they think they could fool with that...

If there was any myth in GTA IV, it would have to be something that fits in a metropolis. So this "Rat-Man" would fit, with all the rats in NY (or so I have heard, I don't live there)
They could have made something like alligators in the sewers.

Since I was fleeing the police today and landed in the subway, I used this opportunity to drive through the tunnels and have a look.
Well, the only people I found down there (except for the ones at the stations) were some hoboes at a subway crossing, where multiple rails parted in different directions. Dunno where that was, all I know is that I entered the tunnels near the station by Wardite Street, and I had already passed Star Junction.
But, there were only hoboes, nothing else. Though I swear I heard something that sounded like a rat squeaking. But maybe that was just some other noise sounding like squeaking. Or it was squeaking, but maybe that was supposed a rat, being part of the realism in GTA IV. Rats in subway tunnels are something normal, right?

I do have to say, the description this Ratmans location are very vague. All I read was "in the darkest parts of the subway tunnels". Great. Where is that supposed to be?

Did ne1 hear about the 'hidden bar' in Algonquan, where in the alleyway behind the bar, Jimmi Henrix can be found playin 'ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER'!! I only heard this off a comment on a youtube myths video, I have briefly searched Algonquan, but hace yet to find a 'Hidden Bar!' Also rumours off the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' in alleways have begun to emerge!!

when i went there, there is a guy holding a clipboard at the end of that hal right of the stairs, i pushed him and he spoke what sounded like spanish..
he then proceeded to sprint..
VERY fast i might ad..
maybe this is the guy we looking for?

Obviously someone found this guy and just made up the ratman stuff.But like you said, he does run off really fast.He also ran right through a train.But I didn't see the dead body that was in the vid.

The subway is glitchy as hell. Last night I went down the steps at West Park station in Algonquin, which has two entrances on either side of the road. When I got to where the steps meet underground, I turned the camera towards the steps down into the area with the ticket booths, a couple of peds appeared and dissapeared right next to me. there was definitely no-one there but when I turned the camera around they flashed into existence and out again just as quick. Interesting, if probably not noteworthy.

and i killed this guy once and returned to the station [after being killed by a train] and there was countless LCPD officers around.

unfortunatly, i didn't get a chance to find out if the body of the Spanish guy was the reason there were there, i landed on an LCPD officer and they killed me

How does this video prove anything?

There's a guy with a clipboard. Big Deal. He's a worker, you see those countless times in several industrial areas. Maybe he was checking something down there. Would only add to the realism of the game.

And that dead body? Uuuuuuuhh... Maybe the guy who made the video made a pedestrian follow him by hitting him, and then shot him down there. Remember that peds that you hit and that down run away, follow you wherever you go. So it wouldn't be a big deal to make him follow you down there. He shot him, and now he claims the Ratman did it. Sure...
Also, the place where this video is made is the same place where you come out in the mission "Three Leaf Clover".

As much as I want to believe in the Ratman, but that video doesn't prove anything IMO.

Trust me, he's not. I encountered numerous guys who responded in spanish when I hit them.
