re: The controversy

I like the one about The Sun. For those outside of the UK, The Sun is tabloid news at its most trashy and they'll do anything to push their point, even outright inventing 'facts' to fit their articles.

A recent article about GTA in the Sun claimed it was behind domestic violence and had several screenshots accompanying the article to prove its point. The first was of CJ walking down the street sort of near to a female ped and was titled something like "SINISTER: Criminal stalks innocent victim" another was a laughable cut and paste job where they'd taken a photo from SA of a female dancer and pasted Claude into the photo, brandishing a rocket launcher. As if it's really that hard to find a photo of real violence in GTA lol.

I remember reading about that and it made laugh, another one is where a few months dunno if it was The Sun or News of The World this 17 year old kid robbed a car only to crash it in a police car, and when asked why he blamed GTA lol now it would be believable but alas the kid was from nottingham (no offence to any notts people out there)

They obviously didn't think of killing someone in game and have CJ crouch ovee them. "RAPE! CJ rapes a dead victim"

I hate that kinda fake stuff. Good thing I'm from Australia! We have some bad TV shows though...
When Wiki makes an article just for the controversy...well it's pretty awesome.

re: The controversy

like i said in another thread, GTA helps kids, imagine if a kid was angry, i dont mean 'aw i wanted them sweets' angry, i mean 'aw im gonna get my uncles gun from under his bed and go out on a killing spree' angry, imagine if that kid instead went on gta and killed people, it would calm him down wouldnt it, thats what i do when i get worked up, go on GTA and go on a killing spre, i end up laughing when the a police car accidently runs me over and kills me

Well computer games are a new form of media. New forms of media always has some form of contreversy of some sort. I think in 10 years time we'll all look back at games like GTA, manhunt etc and say what the hell was the fuss all about, just like when we see old footage of sex pistols saying *bleep* on BBC or elvis presley shaking his hips which seemed quite contraversial back then.

This shit is great. Makes me wanna laugh so hard because people need to realize that it's just a *bleep*in game. You'd NEVER be able to get away with the shit that you can do in IV anyway.

quote Wikipedia
Little Lacy Surprise Pageant

On 16 June 2008 British newspaper The Sun reported the presence of an in-game internet resource called "Little Lacy Surprise Pageant" available on the in-game internet. The fake site – littlelacysurprisepageant.com – displays a message from virtual authorities saying it has been closed down. It warns that anyone caught looking at it will be investigated and features the warning: "We see it all, we know it all," which is similar to the quote "Don't think you can't get caught. You are not anonymous." found at Grokster.com. The player's Wanted level immediately jumps to 5 stars, resulting in both police and FIB (Federal Investigation Bureau) involvement in their arrest.

The domain name address is just one of dozens of fake sites in GTA IV. Typing it into a real internet browser takes users to the official website for the game.

No missions in the game allow players to act out the role of a paedophile, and neither Rockstar Games nor Take Two Interactive have issued a statement regarding the inclusion of this content in the title. In fact, there have never been any children in the Grand Theft Auto series. A baby can be seen being nursed in a cut-scene from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories but has no involvement in the game's overall storyline.

quote Wikipedia
New Hyde Park Crime Spree

On 27 June 2008, police arrested six teenagers who went on a crime spree in the town of New Hyde Park, New York. The group mugged a man, knocking his teeth out, attempted to carjack a woman driving a BMW and smashed a passing van with a bat. According to the Nassau County Police, the teens were inspired by Niko Bellic perpetrating violent crimes in Grand Theft Auto IV.
LmaoLmaoLmaoLmao
Those two were probably the funniest IMO.

re: The controversy

I don't think games can influence a persons behaviour, if anything papers are worse because they always portray something as bad or evil to sell their papers.

Like the papers blame Muslims and other ethnics for stuff like Christmas must now be called winter festival or ba ba black sheep and stuff but its our Government that decided that is has nothing to do with ethics, its stupid.
