Why the hate?

To be honest, I didn't really keep up with GTA4 while it was in production because I thought it was overrated but I just stopped caring about what other people had to say period. But I actually played GTA4 a little bit at my friends which intised me to buy it (I only played GTA3 and loved it) and at the moment I have 67 Hours just on one game file. I made another, and between all the times I didn't save/was just messing around it's probably well over 100 hours. It's an excellent game with plenty of things to do in terms of length.

I just don't know why people say it was garbage. Not many games offer such a vairity of missions besides maybe fallout 3, which isn't as graphically polished or glitch free as GTA4. Maybe it isn't glitch free but it's better off than F3 for sure. I just think it's a great game and people should stop worrying if people hype a game or not, because the only person missing out is you. Only you can have the experience.

re: Why the hate?

Honestly, I don't think there are a whole lot of people who would say the game is garbage, mostly because it isn't. Do some of us dislike the direction Rockstar went with the game? Yes. Do some of us feel like a lot of the freedom and fun were sucked out in favor of realism? Absolutely. But that is not the same thing as saying it was terrible or hating it. For the record, I DO NOT hate GTA IV. I just don't care about it. I absolutely loved every previous GTA, yes, including LCS and VCS, but as critical as I am of GTA IV, I would be lying if I said I hated the game. The missions and story were depressing and absurdly linear for a sandbox game, but let me be clear, the game was worth playing through. I think you, and many others, are confusing the fact that we didn't like what Rockstar did with the title to mean we loathe or hate it. Yes, GTA IV has a great deal more negative reactions from the fanbase than previous GTA games, but then MANY people like you think it was great as well. A lot of people were very disappointed in IV, myself included.

But garbage? Absolutely not.

I thought GTA IV was boring as hell. The Ballad of Gay Tony brought the fun back into the game, but only for 20 or so hours

re: Why the hate?

The only fun thing about GTAIV really was the story missions, the Hitman missions and the Vigilante missions.Besides that the only fun thing to do outside of the main game is run people over. But that's not enough to keep me interested in the game. The most time I played GTAIV was around 85 hours whereas I played III, VC and SA for hundreds of hours.

I never once completed IV 100% unlike III and VC which have finished 100% probably 5 times more.

Once the game was over I found it really boring because there wasn't really anything fun to do.

Niko was too slow and rampages weren't that fun because you weren't practically a God like previous GTA's.

The lack of reawrds also put me off the game.

The way you got rid of cops was shit.Don't take that as being too hard like people always used to think when the game was new and I mentioned my hate for the way you lose cops.

re: Why the hate?

I didnt say it was garbage either, just said Saints Row 2 was alot better, lots of people have argued that Saints Row 2 doesnt have trophies, but buying or liking a game on wether or not it has trophies is pathetic. I've said all along that SR2 is the Sanandreas of PS3, UFO's, customization through the roof etc, Rockets that go faster than an old woman driving a car etc.

So yes SR2 out does GTAIV in every way, except the realism part. But GTAIV Garbage, No its not.

re: Why the hate?

I hated the whole "gangsta" style of SA. That's why I never really cared for S'sR.

The cop system was weird, because sometimes it was so easy to get away (on a boat) and sometimes it was pathetic (like hiding on the brink of the circle in an alley and the star lasting)

Although I never like using cheats, I still felt pretty godly being able to take out tons of cops/people. It takes more thinking and strategy to escape but it's more realistic. It's not something I'd complain about.

I also loved how the places were designed. GTA3 etc. all felt flat, like everything was just turn and drive straight while in GTA4 you could take bridges above buildings and different routes. Yes it was confusing at first but after awhile it's easy to understand where you're going.

Free play online is amazing, though.

Though I never played SR which to me seemed like a gangsta wannabe, I don't think SR2 was really that gangsta style.

Things can be realistic AND fun, evading the cops in GTAIV wasn't that. The car handling was far more realistic but I really enjoyed that.Losing the cops on the other hand I thought was boring and annoying.

While that is true, it doesn't matter how great the city is if the game is boring.I would take GTAIII's plain world but insane fun than GTAIV's realistic city but nothing really fun to do in it.

I should make it clear that like Chiro and SYH I don't find the game rubbish. In fact when I first got the game and was playing the story I thought it was the best game ever made. But after finishing the story I realised how boring and annoying the game actually was.

re: Why the hate?

I don't see how GTA3 was so fun though. Maybe because you were younger at the time and had fonder memories? I remember MGS1 (excellent), and tomb raider (terrible), Tekken but I had great memories of playing them and today not many games leave that kind of imprint on my mind. To this day Tekken and MGS are my most favorite series.

Anyway, about GTA3, I found it could be annoying as well. The Molokov cocktails were almost always a double edged sword. I ended up killing myself when needing them most. Although I did prefer having the ability to carry two kinds of the same type of weapon. I still don't see why they can't let us choose the colors in Pay'n'spray. You'd think something basic like that would be put in by now.

re: Why the hate?

GTA III was a freaking blast in my opinion, and still is. I am still not tired of that game even EIGHT years later. lol not knocking IV, but I was tired of that one a month later.

re: Why the hate?

I know what you mean. If I could count how many times I started a new game on GTA3 and tried getting all the packages I'd piss myself.

I actually got them all once but I may have deleted the data for more room for new games. I don't remember but I lost my 96% complete data and ever since I stopped bothering with it. All I had was some jumps left.

re: Why the hate?

I like it quite a lot, actually. Now, I do agree that it's just too realistic at times, but overall, I think it's still a great game. Bringing back some of the non-realism from the previous games back would be nice too.

re: Why the hate?

BoGT is an improvement over IV, but the game is still way too structured and linear. Every time I decide to veer off of the storyline or gang wars I realize that there is absolutely nothing fun to do on your own. Liberty City is a very large, detailed city but there is zero incentive to explore due to lack of rewards, easter eggs, etc.

When I turn on SR 2 I have no direction or purpose. I walk out of my safehouse and start doing whatever looks fun to me. I usually don't get more than a few blocks before I find something to do. It's always something unplanned or improvised. Constrast that with GTA IV where as soon as I boot up I immediately hit start on the map and set my GPS to the next repetitive mission.

That's where the hate comes from.

re: Why the hate?

If i veer off the Story in GTA4 (Finished it again now) i just go trophy hunting, might as well get em cos they are there for the taking. If no trophies come to mind i just head online and do some races or deathmatches to try to get to level 10. Right now GTA4 is all i play, But its still very far away from being my favourite game.

Trophies couldn't even get me to continue playing GTAIV.I got 4% before I got rid of it.
