Well there are no best and worst guilds but i agree with you. My faves are mages and theives. You can also get the best stuff from them. (I think). I dislike the fighters guild

I liked imperial cult a lot because all the quest givers were in one spot and if you had enough gold you could fill out double the "Alms" missions every time and get to a rank over half way up without doing ANYTHING! plus you get some nice items for low level players.

re: The worst / best guilds

I see what you mean but , hey , this doesn't say , I have a strange likeness of this guild for no particular reason , not only that but you get crap items when you beat the not-so-fun quests .But, when I like a guild ,I have a million reasons why . But , to like a guild just because the quest giver stays in one place , don't you think that's a little rational . and the items that you get can be easily bought or stolen . And the thieves guild quests are really easy , good for low level characters , but if you're like level 6 and your fighting someone , I'm sure you'll be able to beat the guard , give me a break .

re: The worst / best guilds

The Imperial Cult quests are easy at the beginning, but once you get past the lay member quests and get to the serious quests, the Oracle Quests, they are pretty challenging and bring you some awesome items -- items that are most definitely better than anything you can purchase. It is the Imperial Cult that sends you after items like the Boots of the Apostle and Skull Crusher.

I don't have a problem with the Fighters Guild. I suppose one of the reasons is that I tend to play warrior types, as opposed to thieves and magic users. The quest line is a little confusing until you figure out there is a schism in the guild, and that you must choose a side, and you are not going to do all of the quests, but only the quests that support the side you have chosen. Once you figure that out, it all make sense, and I find it to be one of the more interesting "games within the game".

The factions that seem to be truest to their own natures are the religious factions (Imperial Cult / Tribunal Temple) and the warrior factions (Fighters Guild / Imperial Legion), and I like all of those, from a role-playing perspective, for that reason. That is not to say they get you the best rewards, just that what you are asked to do really does make sense given the nature of those organizations, and so it adds a bit to the role-playing experience.

The Thieves Guild is okay, but I find it the least satisfying in terms of role playing. Too many of the quests can be completed without stealing anything, or really using your thieving skills, so that it does not force you to be much of a thief in order to progress through the ranks. To be fair, I guess the same could be said of the Mages Guild. You get good rewards, but for me that is not all there is to the game. I will end up the most powerful character in all of Morrowind with or without the items the guilds give me, so the role playing aspects of the guilds, and other factions, are more important to me.

Yes but , the Imperial Cult sends you after the items , they don't give them to you , and if they did , that would be the only reason to join the guild . Not to mention , that but a lot of the thieves quests requires you to steal or sneak , to get to gentlemen jim you have to sneak and open the door , and for the first quest you must get the diamonds , and for the quest where you need to get the dwemer items , that's stealing again , and for the nerano key thats stealing again , and for the quest for the devil tanto thats stealing again , and for the redoran master helm thats stealing again ,and also for the pillow book , and also for the darts of judgement . I'm begging to assume you didn't even play the thieves guild quests .

re: The worst / best guilds

what i think he means to say is that for mosts thieves guild quests you don't really have to be good at sneaking or thieving, you can just waltz right in and take it after maybe crouching for a few seconds. heck, you could use magic for it and get away without a lick of thieving skills. Maybe they could make the thieving quests harder by making more "attack on sight" bots for thieving areas that are activated when you accept the job. For example when you are trying to steal that one dagger from the ald-ruhn mages guild. Except make it so you have to work to avoid the gaurds and maybe actually have to use some sneaking and/or experience in thieving.

re: The worst / best guilds

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the Thieves Guild, I just wish the game was more strict in making you act like a thief in order to complete the quests and rise in the ranks of the Thieves Guild. It would have really added to the role-playing experience. I have played the Thieves Guild quests all the way through, more than once, completing every quest, including the Bal Molagmer quests, to become Master Thief.

The pillow book, the Redoran master helm, and the darts of judgment are all good examples of quests where you really do have to use some thieving skills. The devil tanto is a little more questionable, because you don't have to sneak, and all you really need is a spell to open a lock. The diamond quest for Sugar Lips Habasi that you mentioned is about the worst of them. Sugar Lips will accept any diamond to finish that quest, and you can buy diamonds or get them in random treasure, so there is no need to rob the alchemist or anybody else. The Nerano key is another weak one. You can steal the key, but you can also just bribe the guy in the Council Club and get the key from him without stealing it.

Again, I am not knocking the Thieves Guild. I like using my thieving skills. I love sneaking up and back-stabbing my enemies. I never use a key or a spell to open a lock if I can pick it instead. But from a role-playing perspective, I think the game designers missed an opportunity in not making it more necessary to act like a thief to move up in the Thieves Guild. They also missed an opportunity for some great quests by not doing more with the blood feud between the Thieves Guild and the Cammona Tong. You get to take out the Fighters Guild leaders who are in cahoots with the Cammona Tong, but why not have quests to take out a few important Cammona Tong operatives as well? Why not even take out Orvas Dren?

I do agree with you about from role playing perspective . I mean none of the guilds really match there names . I mean , the thieves guild can easily be played by a mage , and the mages guild by a thief . and the fighters guild be either .

I never found he darts of judgement. I searched the whole manor, killed the person, threatened the person. None of it worked. In the end I just spawned the darts and sold them to the guy.

Maybe you didn't find the darts of judgement because you didn't look in the Arobar manor bedrooms .
