Well i dont know it was a long time ago wen i activated the second wraithgaurd but i think your disposition with him needs to be at like 70 or higher, mabye im just crazy and that has nothing to do with it but i think that might be why.

nope, you need at least 250 health, because the wraithgurad backfires and does about that much damage to you the first time you equip it after getting it and activating it by the backpath

u have to have ur health at at least 230or more i did just to be on the safe side.

does it matter if you already finished the main quest?

Though if you do get two wraithguards one will permantly take away 200 health;(. And you only need one wraithguard anyway because i still think it would be cool to have a fist of randagulf.

I have both the wraithguards and I noticed the other day when I equiped them that they look different. 1 of them (I'm not sure which) looks a bit like an enchanted daedric glove while the other one looks really cool

He won't activate it unless you have 300 health , I think .

The left one looks different because it is a shield arm. The real wraithguard is always on the right hand since that is your weapon wielding hand.

The fake wraithguard take 200-225 health away and only the first time you activate it, after it doesn't take away any health. Only time you lose any health is if you wield Sunder or keening without wraithguard

how far into the main story do you have to go to get the first wraithguard?

You have to go almost to the end of the main quest line. Only after you have traveled to all of the Great Houses and Ashlander groups and been named Nerevarine and Hortator will Tholer Saryoni send you to see Vivec, so that he can give Wraithguard to you.
