I would have put this in either the Re: or CLOUD threads, but I'm not sure which book it came from, and figured I'd generate some discussion with a new thread.
A CLOUD preview image popped up a while ago and while some denied it, because they were obviously blind, the image showed Lightning and she looked a bit different. The image was small and even a slightly larger version was insufficient. So, I was lurking 2ch again and saw a link to a blog. The image I found there threw me for a bit of a loop.  That is Lightning's old design on the left (I think it cropped up late 2006, early 2007) and the new design (shown in the CLOUD preview image) on the left. So, the hair looks a bit better now, it's lighter. Her face is finally of proper proportions, ridding her of the typical JRPG anime sort of look. She looks prettier now, but is harder and actually resembles Noctits a bit now. But he looks like a woman anyway. Her head was way too large before, but now it's suitable. Also, her nose has changes to mach the longer, straighter one we've seen in more recent shots. Contrasting the in-game scenes from the trailer, Lightning now has smaller eyes. Nothing really that noticeable. I would not have found all those things you stated unless you stated them. But I believe this is just a natural thing for companies to do now-a-days. They go back and tweak some things on characters in order to produce the best, most realistic, model possible.
She does look a lot better though, i would agree with that -------------------

Lightning just looks more feminine now. Cloud when dressed as a female apparently looks better than Aeris and Tifa so if there was a FFVII remake, Cloud would look something like Lightning only with blond hair.

Am I the only one who prefers Lightning's old appearance? She had the whole tough, muscular army-chick thing going on...which you don't see often enough in JRPG females (or JRPG males for that matter).
