Additional Information: Once a member of the military, Lightning now fights against it to protect her sister Serah Farron, who has presumably been kidnapped prior to the events of the game. The start of the game sees Lightning attempting to hunt down the Pulse fal'Cie and rescue her sister.

Additional Information: Leader of the underground, anti-military Team Nora, Snow is engaged to Lightning's sister, Serah Farron, a fact which creates friction between him and Lightning. The start of the game see's him searching for Serah too, whilst lending a hand to the restistance.

Additional Information: We perhaps know the least about Vanille in comparison to the other playable characters. Apparently a resident of Pulse, Vanille is being deported from Cocoon at the start of the game.

Additional Information: Another ex-member of the military, Sazh now works for a tourist airline, but has given up his profession for the time being whilst he searchs for his missing son, Dajh, who has been kidnapped by the military.

Additional Information: Deported from Cocoon with his mother, Hope becomes trapped on the battle field, teaming up with Vanille in the process.

Hope's mother is killed whilst helping Snow's resistance movement, leading to his resentment towards Snow.

Additional Information: As childhood friends of Snow, the four members (including Snow) of Team Nora oppose the government of Cocoon, leading them to face many a battle.

Status: Unconfirmed if playable or not.

Additional Information: As Lightning's sister and Snow's fiance she was the first l'Cie to be 'created' by the Pulse fal'Cie 13 days prior to the start of the game. During this time she was captured by the government and 'crystallised', imprisoned with the Pulse fal'Cie. Lightning and Snow are both searching for her.

Status: Unplayable (due to age).

Additional Information: Sazh's only child, Dajh's mother died years prior to the game. Dajh was captured by Cocoon's government for reasons unknown and it is Sazh's goal to get him back. The chocobo that lives in Sazh's afro is actually Dajh's and Sazh was simply looking after it in his absence.
