Personally I have high hopes for this title, and I really think that FFXIII could be the FFVII of the PS3 generation. What do you guys think?

Graphics are always a factor but they don't necessarily mean its going to be a good game. FFVII's graphics suck compared to today's games and it still is better than some games coming out today.

What made FFVII a great game was the storyline (and several other factors like the game play and such). Whats going to make or break FFXIII will be mainly based on the Storyline and game play I believe.

Your absolutely right about that, what will make or break FFXIII is the storyline. And with a MUCH bigger disc capacity, I think they can fully explore the backstory of the characters (something which they didn't do for FFXII, and as I mentioned in another thread earlier, they cut corners to fit the game onto the disc as it is). With the extra disc space I think they will be able to delve into the characters more, but ofcourse theres also the chance that Square-Enix think characters aren't that important, and give us a LONG game, just with no character development.

As long as they actually have an interesting story with character development then it will be a good game in my eyes. In FFXII they had a good thing going in the beginning but after they started traveling a lot it went downhill. They didn't really talk and it became stiff and uninteresting.

My Favourite and Very First Final Fantasy are one in the same - Final Fantasy X. I think your very first final fantasy has a lot to do with it. If you don't like your first one, your not likely to like the others and so you don't try them, Then if you do like it, it being your first, tends to stick to your mind more and so you like it even more and in comparison the others just dont cut out.

FFVII was a great game, but for me it was no FFX. Story-wise FFVIII was one of my favourites (along with FFX) but gameplay wise, I absolutely LOVED FFXII. Story wise it wasn't all that, but in all honesty the Gameplay is what you focus on once you've completed a FF game anyway, so it really got me sold.

Many people thought going that far away was a sort of "Taboo" and hence they made themselves not like the gameplay. I'm honestly hoping that FFXIII uses many of gameplay elements from FFXII and improves on it greatly (as much as I liked it, it can definitely be improved). Do that and I really think Square may have an award winning FF on their hands once again.

At the moment, FFXIII along with MGS4, Killzone 2, Warhawk and a few others are considered the "holy grail" of the PS3 in that these are the games that will make the console. This in itself leads to extremely high expectations, but it IS (IMO) possible to reach those expectations because we know that Square can exceed these expectations as they showed by going from FFIX to FFX.

I think FF VII's success is really in that it deviated from the older traditions of some of the older FF games, mainly the medieval setting, and it surpassed peoples earlier expectations for it. That was with me and my cousins anyway (playing FF since before i had any idea what was going on it it, lol). But FF XIII does seem to have great potential. The only downfall i see is that since it takes so long to make, the hype over it could build, and then when it comes out, it's not quite what everyone expected (like with FF XII). I'm just hoping for a better story and character development in this game. What i really didn't like about FF XII is that you could set gambits if you were careful enough with them, you wouldn't have to do anything but move your character.

It won't be better or surpass FF7 cause you can't even compare them, two different type of storylines and gameplay. However Lets look at the trends here: 1.FF7 was the first FF game on PS1 and it was a colossal hit, 2. FF10 was the first FF game on PS2 and it was also a big hit, 3. FF13 its not out yet but if the other first two FF games that was the first to be on the new system continues, it could end up a big success probably be awesome.

I think we need to just recognize FF13 as a new FF game in this era and not compare it to a fifth generation title if you ask me.

Also FF12 was not a bad game i found it to be great, i just thought the political storyline was a little off to what FF games normally had. And graphics was superb, The gambits and battle system was new. It fit the game very well, despite the slowness.

I loved FFX alot, i liked far batter than FF12 overall. But i would not compare FF10 to FF7, its kinda ridiculous.
Things will be different in the whole game aspects. But no doubt will FF13 be a kickass game that will sell millions.
