quote ShadowGuardPfft. You haven't seen the FFVII vs FFVIII threads then >_> quote ShadowGuardI would say it has more to do with it being Final Fantasy than Final Fantasy X. quote ShadowGuardIf they are opinions, why are you trying to argue that FFX is better? How do you know that the majority agree with you? And how does that make you right when not everything thinks the same? I hope the majority you speak of doesn't consist of the members who post mostly in the FFX forum. Because of course they would say FFX is the best >_> As far as the scores go, 77% isn't the best score in the world, but it won't stop me from getting the game if I really want it. Just because another game gets a 10/10 doesn't mean I will go out and get it instead. This message was edited by neto_360 on Jun 29 2008. -------------------

quote neto_360Yes, I even posted on it. it has kind of died off, but even though it was put in the FFVII forum, it was about evenly split. But the numbers in that thread does not really matter. It is the fact that FFX is being compared to FFVII (which most seem to find FFVII as the best FF). quote neto_360Maybe so, but the final fantasy name really only counts in the first week of the release. After that, people hear how good it is and go buy it. Even if you think that is not the case, Many copies were sold and not very many complained about it. quote neto_360These are opinions, but saying FFX was a bad game and a sad excuse for a FF (which someone did imply) is blasphemy. quote neto_360Nor do I, but you said that is was a better game than FFX (who got a very high score for most critics) then GG gave a 77% as an average score for her game. That is the facts, I actually agree that the games GG named are good ones, but this is called a debate to see which game is better among the good ones, and that score kind of goes for me. -------------------

No, the hype from the title lasts far longer than just a week. The title can account for a lot of the initial sales, but adding on the FF name also makes people look at the games differently. As a result, they give it better scores than it may deserve, and then they go recommend it to others or give it unnecessarily good ratings. A perfect example is FFXII.
Also, FFVIII and FFVI are actually the games which are most hotly debated with FFVII because they were probably the two games that really are arguably better in terms of story, characters, and gameplay. FFIX is also up there, but not in the same sense as the other two. There's a simple reason, and it all comes down to the fact that graphics play a very small part in the grading people give each of those games which allows them to be judged on a relatively even plane. And yes, FFX is a completely average FF game. Like I said, it's slightly above average as far as the numbered games go (I'd say probably 5th out of 12) and about the same overall if you include the non-numbered games as well. That's not even really my opinion, as pretty much anyone who's actually played all of the FF games will wholeheartedly agree. -------------------

The only numbered games I have yet to play are III and IV. FFX was actually my first, so I got FFVII, VIII, and IX right after. Then got Anthology, followed by the ports I and II.
My list: FFX FFVII (FFVII would probably be first if they remake it) FFVI FFVIII FFV FFXII FFIX FFI and II are really the same to me. quote MoonriseAs neto360 would say, where is your proof. And as I will say, the majority who have played the recent FF games HAVENT played I-VI or at least V and VI. It is hard for new gamers to series to go back to "less-than-superb" graphics, and you know that is very true. -------------------

re: Final Fantasy Versus XIII ISN'T " On-Hold " untill FFXIII is done ! |

Guys how about we all STOP comparing what FF you all think is better. We ALL have opinions, we all like different things. I'm sure some of you like Sports games, personally I hate it. It's all a matter of taste, and every game in every genre is also a matter of taste.
Initially I was quite enjoying this discussion (I wont call it an argument, because I know most of you in this thread... Roz, SNaP... but it seems to have gotten to the point where your just comparing which FF is the better title. As great as that will be, you will NEVER agree. I myself prefer FFVIII to FFVII, and I know how many people think the world of FFVII. However I don't think they're wrong, its all to do with tastes. With that said, lets move back onto the two topics up for discussion in this thread - the fact that the FFvsXIII team is helping out the FFXIII team, and the fact that the XBOX360 (arguably) is building up it's own list of Exclusive RPG's and how well they're doing. For the second part of the above, I'll try to find that Blue Dragon Article at home and link you all to it, but from what I remember from when I wrote it, the game was generally disliked. Maybe they've changed it since then (the article was from 07) for the US release but as far as I know the Japanese market which are the main RPG markets did not like it. So saying that it sold the most out of other RPG's in Japan, in my opinion means that the other RPG's did just as poorly. And I'm also certain that MGS4 has been quite a system seller, and a huge hit, however I haven't seen many if any articles relating to number of PS3's sold due to it. I also know of quite a few UKers waiting for Dualshock 3 to be released before they get a PS3 (Xenctuary) ------------------- ![]()

Wow gonzab, that was actually more than I thought.
Krunal, Dualshock 3 is the controller with rumble correct? I dont really see why someone would wait for that, does it really make that much of a difference in gameplay? I never had the rumble effect on, so I dont know. -------------------

re: Final Fantasy Versus XIII ISN'T " On-Hold " untill FFXIII is done ! |
quote ShadowGuardYes that's correct. And it does make a fair bit of difference. The fact that the Dualshock 3 has everything the Sixaxis has + Rumble makes it even better. Also MGS4 in certain areas uses the rumble (not having a rumble controller gives a different cutscene). On top of that, the Dualshock is a bit more heavier, whilst you may think that is a bad thing, most gamers, myself included, felt that the SIXAXIS was far too light. I felt that if I held it too tight it'd break in my hands, especially when I played Folklore and I had to shake the controller vigorously. ------------------- ![]()

quote KrunalOi. I wasn't comparing FF titles. quote KrunalOMG. You serious? I just got my PS3 and MGS4, but now I'm tempted not to play it until I get a Dualshock. Damn you Sony and your genuis marketing plan! edit: quote gonzabThey didn't sell quite as much as they would have hoped, I'm betting. The Wii still doubled it's sales for June, and Nintendo didn't even release any first-party Wii titles, let alone any big titles. source I gotta admit, that makes me a little sad. I need to pick up a Dualshock 3 too, now that Sony have finally gotten round to releasing it in Europe - 'bout time ! But as Krunal said, MGS4 is worth a playthrough even without rumble. Yes but that was in Japan.... MGS4 I'm sure is a bigger game in America/Europe than it is in Japan, much like FF being bigger in Japan than any other region. But tis sad that it got beat in Japan
Then again the figure they quoted for the PS3 seems far too low... though I guess it's just me... ------------------- ![]()
