I didn't know where to put this, so I made another topic. But, I notice a lot of people on this site fighting over who they think should be in DW, like Zhu Ran, and Cheng Pu...

Zhang Jiao is in one battle throughout the entire game, yet he's still in the game? Guys like Cheng Pu, Zhu Ran, Ma Dai, Yu Jin, and others are obviously in more battles DURING the three kingdoms era, in DW than Zhang Jiao, yet I still see people use the 'well, this guy has been in more battles than him' or 'this guy killed him and him' or even 'well this guy was in ONE stage, why would they put him in?' as excuses for putting those characters, or not, into the game. Game wise, NOT history wise, I see He Jin and Gongsun Zan as big as players as people like Yuan Shao and or Dong Zhou, yet you don't see them in the game? One staged characters don't seem to matter to KOEI(Zhang Jiao, Yuan Shao, and Dong Zhou.) If that's the case, then guys like He Jin, GongsunZan and Hua Xiong could make it into the 'Others' Forces to make it as big as Shu, Wei and Wu. It just feels weird that there's only like 6-7 people in the 'Others' Forces compared to Shu, Wei, and Wu, but that's a different subject.

From what we've seen from KOEI, they like to replace characters, but what I want to know from this topic is, what characters WOULD YOU take out of the game to be replaced with ones of your own, from the three kingdoms era?

Well it's unlikely that Yuan SHao or Dong Zhou will get removed.
From the game point of view, Hu Lao Gate (and Si Shui Gate) have always been big early stages, and have been in almost every DW. Removing Yuan Shao would mean removing the leader of the Anti-Dong Zhou Force, thus it's likely you would have to remove Hu Lao Gate.
If you did that, it's likely that Dong Zhou, and the majorly important (gamewise) Lu Bu would have to be deleted.
And also, don't forget about Guan Du =)

But to be honest, I agree with you on Zhang Jiao. The most stages he's ever had was I think 6, and that was in the "what if" Musou mode for Yellow Turbans in DW4. You could say that as YTR has been in every single DW, and is always rhe first stage with Han being real, you would need Zhnag Jiao, as a normal officer with magical powers that great wouldn't seem right.

However, my knowledge on the actual novel is small, so NPC's such as Zhu Ran and Cheng Pu, whom everyone seems to love, don't mean much to me. That's why it wouldn't bother me that much if they put them in or not.

And Koei have tried to make the Other forces bigger. Just not in the right way. They added low playability characters, like the Nanman forces whom at most have only had 6 stages (DW4 Musou "what if" mode) and the Nanman are just plain gone in DW6. They tried it with Zuo Ci, but apparently he's a half-fictional character, more so than some of the novel.

Well, I would have replaced Zuo Ci with someone else, but his attacks are very powerful. Maybe give Pang Tong his abilities, and replace the actual character with Yuan Shu to bump up the others side

And I would replace Ling Tong with either Zhu Ran or Zhuge Jin. Ling Tong doesn't really bring anything to Wu.

Is Zuo Ci actually in the book?
And I always wanted DW5 to have the 3-way battle system, just for Zuo Ci's Musou. He should be facing off against both those armies! I heard he's fictional, like Nu Wa and Fu Xi, so he's practically a god.

Zuo Ci was sort of a taoist that harrassed Cao Cao to his death, Slangster.

Im wasn't shocked when Jiang Wei was replaced tbh, since Koei never expanded on the Northern Campaign. Though, he is more deserving than some people like Xing Cai.

I wouldn't want any characters replaced. Koei has a knack for putting huge numbers of characters in their games. With the next gen, they could put even more. Only if they aren't clones though, unlike games such as the DBZ Tenkaichi series

blu ray can hold 50GB of memory, so why eliminate characters? thats my issue. PS3 should at least have about 100 characters on it, and thats the LEAST.

I'd replace Yuan Shao with Zuo Ci because Zuo Ci has more of a storyline

And I'd replace Zhang He with Xun Yu because Zhang He is pathetic with his will to make evrything beautiful. I would either remove him or change his character

Xu Zhu for Deng Ai? They were both pretty useful, Xu Zhu for the early years and Deng Ai for the later.

Why replace Yuan Shao for a character that didn't even exist?

One of the most useful generals during the Northern Campaign for a strategist? We already have Sima Yi.

I would replace... Noone really like Zhou Yu said there should be more people not replacing people... And I would probaly stop playing DW if they got rid of Guan Ping and Ling Tong... because those two are my favorites... and I wouldn't want to play a game that removes my favorite characters..

Well, Zuo Ci is not fictional, but he certainly doesn't deserve to be in the game.

As for me, there would be few I would replace. Maybe Guan Ping with Guan Xing or Da Qiao for some other Wu general.

Well, the name "Zuo Ci" doesn't appear anywhere as far as I'm aware, rendering the character "Zuo Ci" fictional.

He may be representative of the Taoist who appeared for a couple of pages in the novel, not sure about the history.

But he certainly never turned into a Crane, multiplied himself into various apparitions or caused Cao Cao's death through torment.

His existence is recorded in the Hou Han Shu by the name Zuo Ci. He's nothing like he was in the novel or DW, though.
