Sales? |

I have been thinking recently whether the demo has done more harm than good. Sony have gone out publically and stated before the demo hit that in Europe alone 1.1 million people had pre-ordered. Now though all i am seeing is petty complaints about a control system that is easy to adapt to if given a chance and that it's not Call of Duty, could these sales be affected by the narrow minded. The big Xbox 360 games like Halo 3 and Gears of War 2 never had demo's and sold millions and millions, there was nothing to dissapoint them until they bought it.

I doubt anyone cancelled their preorders because of the demo. I wouldn't sweat over it.

The demo will have put more people on the Killzone bandwagon to be honest. For all the pessimists out there, it will surely have changed their views of the game to a more positive one. Also, I'm gradually beginning to despise the comments that it's a poor game because it isn't COD4. Surely a carbon-copy of COD4 would be a poorer effort than a different (and aguably better from what we've seen) FPS. Killzone 2 will be a best-seller...

That's the risk you take with releasing a demo.
The thing to keep in mind is that for every 1 person put off there could be 3 people that are now going to buy the game, so unless it's a really bad demo, then most games will sell more copies having released a demo. =] ------------------- "If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun." - Katharine Hepburn Xbox Live: matt2224 PSN: mh2224

Thank you for the feedback it has been informative i only thought about the bad sides and it's nice to see lots in favour of the demo and it's positive conotations. I guess the overall concensus so far is that the demo will have done nothing negative if anything it may have made the game more desirable. I like that slant on it.

Blacklabel, I see what you saying, but you have to realize you are missing half of the point to the demo. There might be people who cancel pre-orders, but it is pretty much a given (especially from the overall review of the demo) that for every cancellation, there are 2-3 people who said, "I wasnt sure before, but now I think Ill get this game, even if it is to hold me over until CoD:MW2 comes out."
I think the demo and reception of the demo will do wonders for the sales. Good question though Blacklabel.

(on a buisness side of things) ALWAYS ALWAYS release demo's after the game's release. This is why:
We all know Killzone 2 LOOKS amazing to play, but lets just say generaly games look fun to play. And with hype and other elements, games can get quite a following. So many people are going to get the game when the game comes out. They go out and buy it, but they play it and its lack luster, etc. They dont like it. But the devs dont care, they bought the game. Now if that person had a demo to try out and find out he didnt like it before the game's release he wouldnt of bought it. Now if you release a demo BEFORE the game comes out. Everyone who loves the game will try it, but some will end up not liking it and changing their mind to buy it. Declining sales. If you release a demo AFTER a games come out, say a month after the release. (all the hyped up gamers will already have bought the game) Then you keep the spotlight on the game and plus anyone who had doubts about the game or didnt know about it now has a demo to try. So in conclusion, Demo before relase = Only negatives for sales. Demo after release = Only positive for sales -------------------

No, releasing a demo before the release doesn't automatically equal negative sales, because there will almost always be more people won over then those that are put off.

quote Tommo9000I agree. I've never payed much attention to the k2 news, except for reading the headline. The demo has really got my attention, and put me on the list of "Most probably getting the game, but still not sure". -------------------

Killzone 2 will sell plenty, I'm sure. The demo only gets people even more ready for the game to be released.
I like the demo, it's enjoyable, and it only makes me want the game even more; so I can get more of it. More features, the full single-player, awesome online play. I can't wait. The PS3 is selling more and more as of late, and soon, Killzone 2 will probably be the game-to-own on the system.

After owning a PS3 for over a year i now only own 2 games for it, RFOM and RFOM2, after playing the demo i'm a bit on the fence as to the overall quality but i have noticed Play.com are offering it at a great price of £29.99 along with a free dashboard theme. I think i will make this game number 3 and take a chance on it. As for everyone comparing this to COD4, stop it, COD4 is a class game but after playing it for so long now it's getting rather stale, time to bring on something new.

well in Europe alone they have over a million preorders, and seeing as how they didn't need to preorder to get the demo, that means they want the game above anything. to me sales look to be pretty good for Killzone

quote KobieWanKenobiRegarding Play.com, another reason to get it from there is that they usually ship pre-orders really early, meaning that you may get it a few days before the release. ------------------- "If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun." - Katharine Hepburn Xbox Live: matt2224 PSN: mh2224

quote Lupin_the_thirdThat is probably the dumbest thing I have ever heard. There is absolutely no proof anywhere that one can even come up with this statement... The sales for this game, from what I have seen, or in no position to make anyone worry over how well this game will do. -------------------

Just to add to the 1.1 million pre-orders. That it just within the EU, expected total pre-orders world wide would be in the 2 million figures.
EDIT: Missed the opening post sorry Label, yeah the pre orders are around the upper quarter of two million. ------------------- ![]() "Pray god find you, before I do..."
