Its called a Squig Herder, can't grasp a connection but whether it's intentional or not it's still unpleasant. The artwork should of been loads better, showcase the graphics and awesome effects, not this

You could be right about the teeth, but Squig Herder? Ya know what else they look like? Anything with teeth. That is to say, anything.
In fact I think it looks more like a Darth Vader mask.

I see the teeth, but your comparison is a coincidence, I'm sure. This isn't Halo. No magical omnipotent creatures to be seen in the KZ universe.
And there are several different boxarts. Mine just has the HG mask on it, no people under it.

Can someone explain to me what this guy is talking about? I don't see any resemblance between the pictures!

There might be no actual characters with big teeth but the game is a blend of science fiction and horror after all (Human fight for survival? The nazi like regime of Helghan?)

Depends if you agree on the horror element within Killzone 2. Think of it as a metaphor for themes which underlie the story.
