I'm not black, and I'm sure I posted here. But to put it short in my opinion (and note my BEST xbl friend and his girl are both black. As well as two other xbl friends and ones even though they are just on xbl. I would consider them real close friends since we play so much on l4d and such.), I can see in a way since MOST seem to be black, not all are in the game. Also since the majini just seem like psychopathes and not BOWs or such. I can see where it seems more 'real' to be people. However, its just a game and points I KNOW I read in here when it started.....The game is based in Africa, if you go to China you expect to see more chinese people than nothing else. Don't ya? lol

Not racist at all. Enough said, the Capcom development team is mainly Asian and the normal zombified race is the Caucasian (in all but RE4). The game took place in Africa, do you expect killing a Jun cameo in Africa? Or a George Bush cameo? NO!

If people went with all this then eventually war games will be banned.

Where's the evidence? Is any racism explicitly expressed within the game?

The answers are that there is no evidence and no racism is expressed in the game. No racial slurs have been used and all actions by the villagers are associated with the virus. The setting may have been a little irksome but it's there.

People are talking as if the events in the game actually happened.

It's not actually set in Africa, it is a video game with billions of tiny pixels that have been manipulated by programmers to create images that resemble caves, oil refineries, deserts etc and sprites that happen to look like both white and black people.

It is not real, it's a game.

If anything this game tries to be the opposite of racist. The ratio of black people to, well, every other race in Africa is MUCH higher in real life than it is in this game. There are way to many whites/asians/hispanics in this imaginary African village.

It all depends on your interpretation of racism. If you are one of those people that say "I enjoy playing RE5 because I love killing black people", then you would definitely find the game to be racist and that is because YOU are a racist. The game isn't the root for racism, but people are. That's why this thread contains very little discussion value imo.

Aaaand, it's obvious that the answer is no. The game itself never makes any statements or implications about black people as a race, or any other race of people for that matter. It never brings up anythin' about race at any point. The story is that some parasites happened to attack Africa's people and it makes them do crazy things. And it's shown that locals of each race are equally submissive to the parasites. Neither race is shown to be weaker against them than the other. The majority of the infected people are black, but that's clearly only because they're the majority of the population where the attack takes place.
When it comes to racism, this game has nothin' to do with it. It's a blank canvas. The human imagination can convince itself otherwise through misinterpretation, but that's not in any way the game's fault.
Some people can argue that "the game was made by human minds in the first place", but so what? If they had something racist in mind while making this game, it sure doesn't show. Can the game be used by people as a tool of racism? Yeah, I guess, but so can pretty much anythin, and once again, the game itself doesn't attack any race of people at any point, even if it was meant to, which it most likely wasn't anyway.

Lemme sum it up in short: Even if the game were made with racism in mind, and/or if it were used with racism in mind, the game itself does not state or even imply anythin' against any race. There is absolutely nothin' in the dialogue, narration or visuals that attacks any race of people. Not even any implied stereotypes. Nothin'. It's just a story that takes place in Africa, nothin' more.

Now, as ELPRESADOR would say, that is FACTUAL. Anythin' beyond that is just a matter of perception and imagination. The game itself is completely innocent.

It's not really that unrealistic. The ratio doesn't have to be same everywhere on the continent. Kijuju is a fictional place, like you said, so it's not implausible for a refuge camp to be thrown somewhere in there or somethin' like that.

But my point is that this game has absolutely nothing to do with the concept of racism. Whether it is racist or not depends on how people choose to interpret it. In the other words, the true racism lies within people themselves regardless of what game they play. That's why I said this thread is pretty much pointless because a true racist would be able to interpret any game to be racist anyway.

Well, I think what Mario_1 was trying to say was that the game itself had no racist connotation; you aren't dressed in a white dress and a duncecap proclaiming alliance to the KKK, for example.

If there was such a game, though, whether or not people interpret it that way it would be racist.

Its in my view not racist at all and if you even notice this difference between W and B then your probably more racist then the people who made the game.
They were sticking with what logically made sense.
So in short it is not racist but geographically logical and in the end more then half the poeple who help you are B and 2 of the main protaganist(Irving/Wesker) are white so stop bickering cuz both sides get there share of negatives and postives
