Why a Resident Evil Outbreak #3 should be made |
|
Face it, you have zombies, you have friends, you have an apocolypse, you have shotgun (no ammo though), what more could you possibly want? (besides ammo)
Okay, back when the first 2 outbreaks came out they wher poorly received, but like what Miss Razz said, online multiplayer was still at it's infancy and it was the first online co-op RE game ever. After the massive success of L4D I really don't see how an outbreak game could not work. It'll be a L4D in third person view. 4 Players Several long campaigns A versus mode of sorts (in the original you could fight each other in a race to the finish type game) You also get to play as the infected The game would be reworked, it would add voice chat but also make an advancement on the old chat system. Moving/Walking should be an added feature, and it could play a heavy emphasis on co-op. Rather than play as super-soldiers we'll play as measly semi stupid survivors. Remove the infection crap though, that sucked. We could have it where if a zombie grabs you, you are unable to fend it off, so you must have a friend who will try to force the zombie off or you will get bitten. The game could still play as the old ones, focusing on puzzles and collecting. Players are kept with a limited inventory in which they'll need for healing items, weapons, ammo (no shotgun ammo though Having special items in your inventory will greatly focus on co-op since everyone can't just pick up ammo, and guns, they'll need to make room for that key or that gem which they'll need. Having puzzles will also make it more hectic, such as a zombie horde is coming and your weak, you must try and solve the puzzle as fast as you can or face the horde. Statuses shall also have a greater effect, bleeding status was a great way to tell who are your real friends. If you are bleeding the zombies will naturally go to you and ignore others (unless they are completely in the way) since your limping it's up to your friends to either help and protect you or forget you and carry on. If your limping due to bleeding, poison or just in danger, you can have a healthier friend hold your shoulder and make you go much faster. Thing is, you'll go faster because of the help but the helper will go much more slower because your dead weight. Limited ammo will strike competition or true friendship. Let's say both you and your friend is poisoned but there is only 1 blue herb, who will you use it on? You both have shotguns but there's only 1 pack of shells left. Who will take it? There's only 1 first aid spray left, all 4 of you are in danger status and a you can hear the horde breaking down the doors ready to eat you. Who will take the last first aid spray? Decisions like this will also really make the game feel more real and tougher since you'll need your friends in order to escape but you also need to escape. The first outbreak games basically did almost everything right, and it would be silly of capcom to not try and delve into this. So, what do you want to see in a new outbreak? Why should an outbreak game be made? Let see your opinions. ------------------- ![]() Survival Horror Social

Its like you said, Valve. Online would be its mainselling point. Its exciting just thinking about the prospect of playing Outbreak on the PS3.
Online is the "norm" now and everyone who owns a PS3 and 360 mostly have access to the internet using their said consoles. Capcom would be stupid to ignore this chance for Outbreak 3. It will rack in lots of money and because it would have zombies in it, which us fans sorely miss, it will be another one of Capcom's selling points. Overall, Outbreak 3 would definitely succeed this generation of consoles. ------------------- ![]() Survival Horror Social / Dissidia: Final Fantasy / Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

re: Why a Resident Evil Outbreak #3 should be made |

While I agree that another Outbreak game would be a good thing, I say the reason for that is because the other Outbreak games sucked so much dick that a decent third one is needed to clean up the stain they left on the RE series!
If another game was to be made, the following changes are a MUST: 1. 4 item inventories are bullshit. If Chris in RE1 had a 6 item inventory, that's the minimum any character should have, unless they're NAKED. Besides which, why the hell can't you pick up a backpack, suitcase, or shopping bag from one of the dead, or something? I'm sure Yoko's backpack can't be the only one in Raccoon City. 2. For god's sake fix the f*cking AI! The AI in Outbreak is so amazingly bad that it's about 99% impossible for the other characters to make it to the end when you're playing in single player. Considering they have to, in order for you to see the ending sequences... that's just not right. 3. Stop the AI characters from dropping weapons you just smegging gave them! You don't give someone an item hoping they'll throw it out immediately and pick up something useless... 4. Hiding in closets and the like was basically useless since you didn't want to hide, you wanted to just get through the level quickly. Removing the stupid virus timer would help with that. 5. Once again, the virus timer. Why on earth should I be infected? I checked and I didn't actually get bitten by a rat at the start, so where did the T virus come from? If there must be a timer, it should begin only when you've actually been bitten or otherwise hurt by an infected creature. At the very minimum, when you've TOUCHED a zombie or whatever. 6. 3rd person perspective and bad camera angles are not a good idea in a multiplayer game. It's all too easy to lose track of where the heck everyone else went. Why not do something truly awesome like creating a multiplayer Outbreak game using the engine from the game STALKER (Or the Clear Sky prequel)? The reasons I'm suggesting STALKER are: 1. It has absolutely amazing graphics. It's beautiful. It puts any other game other than Crysis to shame. 2. It already has a mechanic for upgrading weapons (Clear Sky). This could be used like that Plumber guy's item combination system. Only, the STALKER version is for guns and body armour. The only problem is it uses money, so if this was a direct total conversion mod, it would be hard to alter that. There is a system where collecting USB memory sticks containing data unlocks upgrades, so maybe those could be replaced by raw materials. 3. STALKER already has zombies. The "Oblivion Lost" mod puts back in the actual traditional unarmed flesh eating zombies that were removed from the final game. They resemble Resident Evil zombies, and they even do the falling down and getting back up thing. The only problem is they can't grab you. They hit you instead. Grabbing is hard to make work in an FPS, though it can be done. 4. Stalker actually has half-decent AI! 5. Did I mention it's an FPS? That removes the crap camera angles problem. You already have a backpack type item inventory. There's a wide selection of weapons, such as a knife, crappy pistols, less crappy pistols, .45 automatics, sawn off shotguns, pump action shotguns, SPAS12 auto shotguns, assault rifles, bipod mounted machine guns, sniper rifles... Also there's rocket propelled grenade launchers, rotary grenade launchers, underslung rifle grenade launchers. Hand grenades. You get the idea. I suggested STALKER also because it's a damn creepy game. The underground areas in it are badly lit, with creepy noises happening everywhere, dripping water, monsters lurking in the shadows. Also, the monster selection from the game would be easily modifiable to be like RE monsters. The zombies are already present (They have guns, but the ones from Oblivion Lost do not, and would be perfect) There are already huge packs of mutated dogs that are extremely unpleasant to fight in the middle of a pitch-black night. They just need minor reskinning to look like a cerberus. There are weird mutant... things... called Snorks. They're a bit like zombies but have really screwed up faces and move on all fours. They don't move quite right for a licker, but they do have the right jumping attack and leg slash. There are already crows in the game. They don't attack you, but you can kill them. They do really exist and aren't just scenery. I'm sure their AI could be modded to attack you. There are some other weird monsters too, like mutants with psionic powers, gigantic mutant blob freaks that cause earthquakes, and strange guys in black raincoats who aren't really people at all... Not to mention lots and lots of russian guys with weapons. Hell, there are even EVIL MUTANT RATS. They attack you in packs. Could reskin them into G-type embryos, leave them as they are, or whatever. Anyone think this is an awesome idea? Basically, creating a total conversion mod from Oblivion Lost. (It's already a mod but basically it just re-enabled removed functions and creatures) Since a lot of the scenery from the game is outdoors, or underground, maybe the game could be about surviving in the wilderness in a world where massive zombie outbreaks have wiped out most of the population and made cities WAY too dangerous to live in. Also, it's worth noting that STALKER has an EATING mechanic. You don't feed for a while, and eventually you will die. So you could make a game where you have to forage for survival in the ruins of a zombie infested city, along with other players. There IS a city in the game, which is actually Chernobyl. Filling it with the undead would be pretty awesome, actually. It's just a pity so few of the buildings are accessible. A mod could change that! WHO IS WITH ME? Unfortunately I have no abilities in modding. Just with idea creation. Well, this is interesting. I found a website which seems to be about a RE Outbreak File 3 mod that's already being made. I may be being extremely dense, but I can't work out what game it's for! http://outbreakfile3.user-board.net/forum.htm ^ There it is. Can anyone work it out? Oh wait, I think its for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. They've got a BETA up for download, but I don't know what's actually implemented so far. Still, could be interesting. Let me know if anyone tries it out and it's actually decent. I've got a crap internet connection so I'd have to make arrangements to download it elsewhere... EDIT: AHA! I have found something that gives the general idea of what I'm talking about. I agree with DG if they were to make another outbreak for Ps3 they have to fix alot like RETARDED AI and that damn virus timer god that got so annoying when your running around trying to figure out what you need to do only to see you basically dieing slowly.
Those 2 points alone made 1 and 2 really horrid imo. If they redid an outbreak or made a new 1 fixing those 2 points then I would be more than happy to play a 3rd ------------------- Steeler Football, we got 6 NFL championships now rest of NFL bow down. PSN allen3388

I agree with DG's post but the inventory slot should stay. I mean, not all games can be realistic, for crying out loud in halo/L4d/Call of duty games all you carry is 2 weapons!
Having 4 slots is good. Creates tension and competition. And I doubt that RE will ever go back to it's camera angle ways ever again. Especially for an online game. quote Agent MoAgreed. It made nightmare mode completely impossible >.> Characters should also have special abilities. The "backpack" character where you can add more items to your backpack but it would be harder and take a bit longer to take them out just like Yoko. "Healer" even S.T.A.R.S. needed a there "fix" of herbs now and then and so on and so forth. As long as you remove the overpowered melee moves and leave us with that crappy shoulder attack from outbreak then I'm happy. ------------------- ![]() Survival Horror Social

re: Why a Resident Evil Outbreak #3 should be made |
quote Seeker XWhere did you say all that? I didn't see it. Anyway, that mod's pretty much already being made, but I think the progess on it stopped all of a sudden... Is anyone in this forum good at game modding? Because someone like that seriously NEEDS to be finished for STALKER. I really don't see what you mean about 4 item slots being a good thing. It's never a good thing. It leads to you juggling ammo and items around in a ridiculously unrealistic way. For example, in real life you could put a pistol in your trouser pocket, a box of pistol ammo in the other pocket, a shotgun on a sling on your back, and... let's say... the shotgun ammo in your coat pocket. And something in your hands. If you're holding the pistol, you have room for one more item in the pocket the pistol would be in. That's not how it works in Outbreak. For some reason the weapon you have equipped is still taking up one of your 4 slots... Having 4 slots just creates confusion and frustration as you try to work out how the hell the party can find space to pick everything up. Then when someone accidently picks up all the pistol ammo you try to work out how to transfer SOME of it to someone else, and realise you can't. (At least, I think you can't... right?) And once again I must ask why the heck noone just... pics up a bag, or an extra overcoat from somewhere (more pockets!) Think about it, where did the people in RE1, RE2, RE3, and every single other RE game up to but not including RE4 put all their items? OK, so quite a lot of characters had a knife holster on their outfit, but that would only help with a knife, and the knife just takes up a normal inventory slot ANYWAY. Presumably the police/STARS characters have a pistol holster, which should give them a place to store a handgun and possibly a couple of magazines. But actually, you just use normal inventory space for that. Sooo.... since knife and gun holsters don't explain the higher item capacity, what does? Why do the cops in Outbreak suddenly and magically have a lot less item storage? OK, so one guy happens to have a .45 pistol as his special item, but he's still lacking one item space... RAAAAAAGE! Screw the Outbreak item system. Make a mod for STALKER and keep STALKER's inventory system. It's definitely better. For anyone who hasn't played STALKER, the inventory screen is your backpack. There's no actual real limit to how many items you can put into it, but there IS a limit to how much weight you can carry. You can't run as far without being out of breath if you're carrying too much. You also can't jump as high. I have modified the stalker game files myself a few times, so I know it's possible to change the carrying capacity. Maybe it would be possible to create various characters who would each have a different weight limit and starting items. Seriously, would anyone be both interested and able to make a mod like I'm talking about? Raiding a zombie infested city and all? I'm not sure how to go about making it multiplayer. I believe STALKER does have an online deathmatch mode though. -------------------

Well the inventory system in any RE game is unrealistic, but although i agree 4 items is annoying it is definitely challenging. Maybe make it 6....but no more.

4 items does make it more challenging, and the thing is since there is 4 of you it'll technically be 16 slots which each will have to use wisely.
And DG what is it with you and ultra realism? It's supposed to be fun, hell if L4D was like what you said I'd have both Shotguns and Assult rifles, a sniper rifle equiped, a huge backpack full of medkits and pills (for luis) and several grenades. Sometimes games need restriction above realism, otherwise it would make the game way to easy, and if there where 6 slot items yoko would be completely and totally useless. That or the new backpack character. Besides, screw realism, realism went out the door the moment the matrix started to affect everyone. ------------------- ![]() Survival Horror Social

Lol, a healthy balance between the two is what is needed.

Well there is a choice, if you want a more simple system then you stick with the slots. You want a more fleshed out but complex system then you can use the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. inventory system...which is almost like RE4's anyways so you can relate.

re: Why a Resident Evil Outbreak #3 should be made |
quote Ded ValveNot true. Because you'll never find that many health packs in L4D. You'd have space for them but no way to actually get them. Anyway, I just said the STALKER system has a weight limit. If you try to carry around a shotgun, an assault rifle, and a sniper rifle, and ammo for all of those, you find yourself unable to run more than about 10 feet without being out of breath. You also wouldn't be able to take as much ammo for each weapon. 80KG is the maximum weight limit. 70KG is when you can't run properly. 80 is when you literally cannot move. If I remember correctly, about 10 shotgun cartridges is about 0.5KG. A gun on average is 4KG. Your clothing and armour add to the weight. Add quite a lot to the weight, actually. You also carry food, which adds to the weight. Grenades weigh about 0.5KG each. Having addons attached to your guns makes them even more heavy. If you try to carry around a grenade launcher or an RPG, they're extremely heavy and you'll have problems. It's not that you can't carry a decent ammo supply. It's just that you find what you want to carry turns out to be suprisingly heavy. It's not the same as RE4. RE4 uses the inventory system from Deus Ex, where you can carry as much as you like in terms of weight, but you have to fit your items into a grid of a certain size. RE4 and STALKER both use fine inventory systems. The only stupid things about the RE4 version are that you can apparantly fit an RPG into a briefcase... wtf? And Leon is clearly NOT carrying a briefcase. I have no problem with just sticking to a standard Resident Evil 6 item inventory. That lets you carry a couple of guns, with ammo, and two puzzle items. I just don't see what logical reason there is to suddenly have less space per person in Outbreak. Besides, how does Yoko fit multiple brooms in her backpack? -------------------
