re: GD: XXXIII: [On Topic]

I don't see how or why there would be a conspiracy to keep a Mod out of this Forum. The place isn't really that active any more;and the game has been out for a year.

Yes but it's the fact that this place does have activity.

re: GD: XXXIII: [On Topic]

I just looked on the Stats page for this Forum, and it said that it's like 68th in Forum activity? With like 35 posts per day? I don't know if that needs a Mod. It's close, but I don't know.

re: GD: XXXIII: [On Topic]

I think the minimum number of Post Per Day in order to require a Mod is 20. So some would say that we could use a Mod, but it depends on people's opinions, really.

Yeah I guess it does. I'd apply for the position myself if I'd been around a bit longer

I thought the min was 15. Hm. Times changes, I suppose.

This place may be 'active', but, like I've said before, nobody causes any trouble. We're a bunch of old farts sitting around talking about the good old days. No one here needs moderating, so the forum doesn't need a moderator.

re: GD: XXXIII: [On Topic]

Back in the good old days, you could have a GD full of great, intelligent discussion after just three days with only four or five people contributing. This place (neo as a whole) was like our chat room, but without the stupid people spamming.

We also walked uphill to connect to the internet and to get back home, both ways. In the snow. And we used dial-up.

And when the internet gave out we walked to our coal shed and stoked it with 54 pieces of coal. I remember when that would last us 20 whole mintues.

re: GD: XXXIII: [On Topic]

You had a coal shed? Man, you had it nice. We had to go out back and cut down a tree, then throw the snow-covered logs into the fire and hope the melting ice didn't put it out too much (or dampen the wood so much it wouldn't light). Ours lasted longer, but was a bit more of a pain to keep going.

Seriously, though, games like Super Mario World and Sonic the Hedgehog were the greatest. We didn't need Assassin's Creed or Crysis to be happy; we could take out our Transformer action figures or He-Man VHS tapes and enjoy ourselves for awhile like that. Realistic graphics... games were never realistic. Honestly... Pac-man, Doom, Pong, Dig Dug, Donkey Kong... those games were supposed to be a way to focus your mind off of reality, to enjoy yourself for a time. Not to want to bash in your TV because somebody killed you. You were never killed, but you did die because Mario didn't jump right, or a spiney moved when you weren't expecting it, or those danged bullet bills had you trapped, or whatever.

"Intellegent discussion" might be pushing it a bit here, but it was great stuff. I miss having off-topic General Discussions. I can go to other forums, but it's just not the same without all you guys. Let's all go take over the Gamecube's Twilight Princess forums and pretend that we've always been there.

Regarding the paragraph about games, I can see where you are coming from. I can admit that I am a sucker for the amazing physics in Crysis and Battlefield: Bad Company, but I have to say that I really do miss having new games that were just about having some fun, take your mind off of real life and just relax. I miss being able to play games like Contra almost instantly, and even when you die and start over, it takes seconds to get back into the game. No need for 5+ minute cutscenes you can't skip and waiting hours before the game gets any fun. Complexity is interesting, and I like to play complex games, but to be honest I have the most fun with games that are just about enjoying the game. Games that you can play over and over and over again and not grow tired of them. Classic games like Super Mario Bros, Contra, Street Fighter and the like, as well as more modern games like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Simplicity is undervalued these days. Not simple games, but simple gameplay.

Although, again, I do like a balance of both. I'm enjoying both Mass Effect and Super Mario Galaxy (again) right now.

re: GD: XXXIII: [On Topic]

I agree, the more complex games are nice. I'm a sucker for a Halo party, and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn has this unshakeable hold on me (despite it's stab-myself-in-the-face difficulty). But there are times I just want to relax with some Galaxy or Melee.

Also, Trauma Center: Second Opinion is still really good. I've gotten to the point where I almost don't want to play, because I keep failing the surgery, but I try at least three times before giving up for the day.
