re: Controls

I see. I can see how the box would affect game play greatly. However, if you move your cursor all the way to the side and it doesn't move, then that limits the turning to the analog stick. If that's the case, then how would one straffle? (sp?)

re: Controls

Straffing? You just keep move the control stick right or left and you'll strafe in that direction. Not that hard. Or did you say something else?

re: Controls

Yeh you'd just have to keep it moving. I don't see what the problem would be with strafing.

What's so hard about strafing? Look, I drew up a quick diagram on paint...

re: Controls

That's what I was thinking too. However, there is a problem. If pointing the gun to the side of the screen does not turn the screen, then how do you strafe in the right direction? You simply couldn't turn.

re: Controls

Uh.... what? If you turn the controller all the way to the screen, it will rotate. You should still be able to strafe. It's just like any FPS, but with a slightly diffrent set up using the box thing.

Or am I just missing what you're asking completly?

re: Controls

But what about this invisible box? If the box is there, aiming your controller all the way to the side of the screen will do nothing but aim in that direction. If the box is there, the screen wont turn.

re: Controls

Argh, dude, argh. I made a pirate sound. That shows you how much I'm dedicated to teaching you things.

How about a picture? Are you a visual learner?

See the brighter part of the picture? That's the invisible box. Point the Wiimote within it, and your view won't change. You will, however, be aiming at where you are pointing. Now, let's say you aim into the darker part of the picture. All the way to the left, let's say. Samus will then begin to turn to the left, still aiming at the very edge of the screen. One you aim back at the invisible box, she will stop turning.

Do you get it now? Please say you get it now.

re: Controls

I get it, but it's a STUPID control scheme. Keeping the gun pointed at the center of the screen would be easier and would work better.

re: Controls

I most certainly undertsand this. However this means you'll probably need a big(ger) television to play the Wii because on say a smaller Tv the dark border area could take up too much and you'd have trouble with visibility and aiming etc.

So wii is aimed for bigger TV i guess? Lucky I have a decent widescreen set up.

re: Controls

Well, I guess I could get used to the control scheme. It doesn't look THAT bad. I do agree that guticb's idea is better but hell, who cares.

re: Controls

I don't get why they don't stick to a classic FPS control scheme, like the one I drew. It's easier that way, and takes less getting used to.

re: Controls

Red Steel WILL feature different Control Schemes!!

quote
The team behind Red Steel have taken what was said at E3 to heart, and are trying to make Red Steel the best gameplay experience it can be. The team has stated that the controls at E3 seemed the best fit to them, but now they see that they were used to them, while newcomers found them too sesitive. The final game will also offer many control schemes and preferences so the player can be as comfortable as possible.

Ubisoft plans to have many uses for the Wiimote speaker in Red Steel. For example, sword slashes will be heard on the Wiimote, but the team made the point to say that many more uses of the speaker will be implemented.
