I knew games could get annoying, i have been playing them all my life and love everything that has been on a nintendo console that I have ever played, except for Red Steel.
I was really enjoying the game until the swordfight bit on NIGHT OF THE KOMORIS, where not only is it the most stupidly impossible thing ever to do, not even involving skill, just luck, but you have to kill the turd again without a checkpoint to save your monumental progress.
This is not just hard, it is absolutely impossible and i personally think a huge design fault! The makers of the game have created an un-equal currency with the swordfights. The game is diffucult in places, but in a fun way, but the sword fights aren't even fun, you just get this sense of your heart dropping to your boots every time one comes on, and the remote is really unresponsive. Does anyone else find the wire connecting the nunchuk to the controller flicking up when you parry, and totally putting you off what your doing? And as for the slash action, it doesnt even do what your hand is doing, making the combos near impossible.
The game would be brilliant if they hadnt decided to give it a very very poor original twist which just totally DOES NOT WORK!
Also whats with the terrible voices on the cut-scenes which you cant skip at all, they go on for ages, and i just put the controller down and go and make a brew whilst they do their thing. Its really boring and long-winded when all the player wants is to get back into the action.
It is as if Ubisoft have decided to forcefeed the audience a massive helping of oriental culture with no regards for how it might totally ruin the gameplay, by shoving in the diabolical swordfights and the really boring, un-skipable, badly acted storyline cutscenes.
This game could have been the next Goldeneye, but instead it has fallen well and truly on its slow, unresponsive, fat arse!

Yeah, but that bit I mentioned seems to have no pattern, and when he does his weak attacks they are instant, not any warning. The swordfights are only a little bit of the game so how do the makers expect you to be a bloody expert at it and to have the reflexes of a real life cougar.
Its like Call of Duty, now you mention it, the game is badass, but you have to do this crap driving steering wheel thing with the remote and it is so badly unresponsive it can be a bit annoying. Another example of them just shoving in a feature to make it Wii-ish when theres no need and it just pisses you off.
They just thought it would be a good idea but it isn't, truthfully would you still like the game just as much, if not more without having to go through the swordfights? ruth?

If the cut scenes are bad because it was rushed, then, err maybe they shouldnt rush stuff. Look at the new Mario, thats taking its time because they want it to be good. And also, if a games not too difficult it doesnt mean you get no enjoyment from it. I shredded Resident Evil 4, but i still love a blast on it when im bored. Red Steel was just frustrating, and i dunno about anyone else but I like my games to be fun. If I want to be bored and pist off i'll go and do a shift at work.

Hi guys, i'm back from almost a year of getting a life and i can honestly say that Red Steel is still a stale, cheesy lump of cock cheddar which is too hard.
Is anyone still playing this disgraceful game? At least Nintendo are dishing out those wii remote protector things now so anyone playing Red Steel wont keep chinning themselves as they attempt the stupidly hard sword fights.

Never!! This thread will go on forever! And another thing, Red Steel will never be any good because the game has not taken advantage of all of the Wii's functions.
The remote has, amongst other sensors, an accelerometer inside, which basically works by a small ball rolling around inside the sensor, telling the Wii at what angle the remote is being held and giving a reading for the velocity at which the remote is moved at; either from side to side, up to down or left to right. I know this because i have actually connected my Wii remote to my computer and observed the outputs. The Wii remote also has a sense of depth perception by using the infra-red bar on top of the screen. The programmers of Red Steel have made the game so that the accelerometer requires the sensor to reach a particular position on its axis before it can give out a reading.

It would be possible to have the remote tightly reflect the actual movement of the players arm by combining all of the parameters that the Wii is capable of, like in Twilight Princess where the movement of Link's fishing rod (before casting it out) is an accurate reflection of the player's movements in a 3D world.

In Red Steel, instead of being able to wave the sword like you'd like, you have to do sudden jerk actions in order to trigger one of the pre-determined movements. This, my friends, is the fundamental reason why Red Steel is a crud game; the designers could not be bothered to take it to a higher level and make use of the Wii remote's technology, instead opting for an easy, pre-determined set of moves activated by sudden hand gestures as opposed to a reflection of a real-life sword fight scenario.

Not only does this solidly prove that Red Steel is crap, it also perfectly addresses the reason that I started this thread. Red Steel may not have ruined my life as I once believed, as I have a lot of fun talking about it on this thread, but it sure ruined its own life.

Im a pretty huge fan of Zelda Twilight Princess though, loved playing that. And Resident Evil 4 rocked my socks off, cant wait for Res 5. Anyone rocked umbrella chronicles yet?

Yeah, I kinda liked most of the game. It was a really good shoot em up, reminded me loads of Goldeneye. It was just the swordfights that i wasnt keen on as you well know by now! lol.
Imagine the creators of Red Steel used Red Steel as a guide to make a remake of Goldeneye. I know its old but its one of the best games ever, i reckon they'd make an absolute shedload of money and it would be one of the best games ever. I wonder why games companies never do a revamped version of an old game, but exactly how it used to be, just better graphics. Ive always thought they should do a new version of Donkey Kong Country on the SNES as well, that probably my favourite game of all time.
Its gonna be interesting to see how that Wiimotion thing makes Red Steel 2 different, it will probably solve all my issues with it to be honest. Anyone know what it actually does?

Im sorry guys, I have been reflecting, and Red Steel was a crap game, because the reason you play a game is to have fun, and frankly when you cant get past a part of the game because of the limitations of the controls, not because of your lack of skills, then the game is not fun whatsoever.
Yea I might have said the game was good in other parts, and im sure some of you wont let me forget that i said that, but the game is nevertheless impossible and hence totally pointless. Its like saying "yeah this car is brilliant, it has electric windows, leather seats, air conditioning, it amazing, but hang on.... wheres the focking engine!!!". Turd analogies apart, im sure you can catch my drift?
