Sloppy Textures |
|
I've been doing some research and I realize that GTA IV on the 360 gives off a few more sloppy textures because everything streams off the disk, where as the PS3 version has bits and pieces of Liberty City installed on the HDD. However, I also read that it should rarely happen that I should see a texture load at the wrong time and I'll see a badly graphiced building very seldom.
But lately, mostly after I finished the game, I've been noticing some REALLY BAD textures. I've seen Garbage Cans/Lamp Posts/Awnings/Buildings/Street Designs, you name it, load up some 10 seconds after I stopped and held still. And not once, but 3 times now, I've gone through a Tunnel (1 time it was a minor street tunnel in Algonquin, and the other 2 were through the Booth Tunnel that connects Alderney + Algonquin) and what happened was the tunnel would dissappear or look so bad that I would actually be driving through gray crap. Now I'd understand if I can't do anything to help this, but if there are any suggestions, I would gladly appreciate them. A few things you might want to know; My disc is NOT scratched what so ever, not even hair line scratches. Also, my 360 was bought August '07. Thanks in advance!

It happens to me all the time and i own the PS3 version... It seems that the biggest glitch in San Andreas is back with a vengeance in GTA IV, i hate it since i am a person to pick up on this so when i am driving relatively slow and a trash can just pops up out of nowhere it just takes me out of the experience.

re: Sloppy Textures |

the draw distance is fine it is the texture fill rate that seems to be an issue, the game isn't loading things until it is ready and sometimes you are at the destination and it will take 10 seconds to load the texture or the object, it is pretty damn poor.

I just started the 360 version tonight, after getting 100% on the PS3 version a few days ago. Honestly, both versions look awesome. I don't see any noticable differences in graphics or textures, but I am in the beginning of the game. Since I am one of the few people who have both versions in the Neoseeker GTA IV forum, I will note and post any differences I see.

The game looks great but i my version atleast i am plagued with glitches and graphical faults, i think from my experience there are more glitches in GTA IV than III, VC and SA combined i have encountered so many, i haven't even played it that long i think 90 hours is my maximum count for this game, i haven't played it for a few days either it bores me lol.

I haven't really encountered that many glitches, except for some online glitches, but I digress. A friend of mine says his works fine on his 360 aside from a green tint he gets, but thats on all his games and it's caused by his console for some reason or another. So I believe that the 360, and PS3 for that matter, depending on age, load some things slower.

Shinobi, I have always bought all ports of GTA and played them to 100% completion.
quote doom destroyerI haven't really seen many glitches. The game feels really tight to me. Outside of the odd glitch here and there, I am impressed by how few glitches I encountered and I already got 100% completion on the PS3 and now started the 360 version. Oh and doomy, I am a little surprised. I thought I remember you raving about GTA IV and how awesome you thought it was. Maybe I am wrong. ------------------- ![]() It's official. i think you guys are exaggerating a bit i mean how could this game hve more glitches then all those games COMBINED not only that but remember that san andreas had a WHOLE SEPERATE WORLD [blue hell underworlds etc.] i heard this game has it to but i remember braden saying in the sa forums that you can get to blue hell almsot ANYWHERE in san andreas if you push hard enough on weak polygons there are like only 4 here and it's not as big a deal cause it's kind of rare i think?

Has anybody tried dumping the cache to see if that will help with the load problems?

I've had that alot too. I'll be cruisin along the sidewalk and my car just stops, and I fly out of the windscreen for no reason. I walk back to my car, and find nothing. While I sit there trying to figure out WTF happened, a tree decides to load right where I crashed. The bug that haunted me all through San Andreas has come for revenge.

I've never had much problem with 'pop-up' or things not loading, unless i'm going top speed in an infernus then it struggles to keep up a bit.
The only thing that happens to me is i'll be cruising along and it'll not have something loaded 100%, then when it's all nicely loaded my car just launches into the air.... Pisses me off. -------------------

The pop-in for me isn't that bad, and I'm using my old, beat up 360 that's on the verge of dying. I occasionally speed down a street and look behind me and notice textures pop-in after a split second, and occasionally I see textures have to load on buildings but it's rarely an issue, the biggest problem is the trees and plants pop-in. When running through the park or driving down a street where trees are they often pop in and it looks ugly as hell. Apart from that the city looks amazing. Considering the scale of it too, I'm very impressed with the amount of pop-in, and I'm especially impressed with the DVD-9 for coping with it as well as the BluRay does.

quote ChiroVetteI know i am also surprised 2 weeks in i have completed it 3 times one save to 97% and i am utterly bored, now some would say you have over played it but campaign 2 and 3 took 23 hours combined, this game is far to short and i am shit at GTA games, San Andreas took me about 120 hours to complete because i was bad at it, same with Vice City but GTA IV is far to easy and short as a result... Tied in with the glitches i have encountered i would would give GTA IV a 6/10. With the initial hype train still buzzing through my veins the game was flawless but now i have hit reality i feel it is a very average game. ------------------- «Doom Destroyer.
