Okay.... I got the game the day it came out, after a while it started to give me the disc is unreadable message every now and then. It eventually led to only being able to play a couple minutes and then I'd get the message. So I returned my copy for a new one and it was all fine. Yesterday it gave me the message again. Now I get to the third or fourth picture in the start up load every time I try to play.

I'm pretty sure it's not my system because I've played COD4 since without any trouble. Any ideas as to what the hell is going on?

Man, I bet your frustrated. While it is statistically improbable getting two bum discs, I would return the second one just in case. I think three bum discs is conclusive enough to pursue alternatives. Good luck! I hope things work out for you.

I had the same thing happen to me.

I rented the game from Family Video and I guess after leaving my Xbox on all day it kinda warped the disk.

If you held it under a light you could see little ripples in the shiny part of the disk.

But thats Family Video's problem now.

I'm enjoying the irony that you rented this game from a place called "Family Video," to be perfectly honest.

I've had the disc read error/freezing issues myself, I think it has to do with how much the game has to pull off the disc every second, to be honest. First the draw distance goes to shit (the pop-in occurs directly in front of where I'm driving) and then the whole thing locks up. The other day the system shut itself down and I got 2 red rings (I pissed myself). All of my other games work fine, though, it's weird.

If GTAIV crashes my system before I can finish it, I'm going to be quite angry. Thank God I've got a Wii and Smash Brothers sitting downstairs, otherwise I'd go nuts...

Have you got your Xbox properly ventilated? I used to get an unreadable disk message VERY often, but I bought a fan. I don't mean a replacement or upgrade Xbox fan, I mean a fan for my room. It's close to my xbox so it helps the air circulate better and I haven't had an unreadable disk message since.
