Is Mario a dying franchise? |
|
I personally think Mario should be over with very soon. Not that i don't like Mario, it's just, that the games are starting to get stupid, the only Mario game i think that is good is Super Smash Bros. and Superstar Saga.

I agree that they're decreasing in quality but Galaxy is gonna be awesome. Hopefully after playing it, you should gain interest in Mario again.

Decreasing in quality? I disagree. Other than Sunshine, which was still a really good game(There are very mixed opinions, between a disappointment for some and a great game for others), the Mario series is not decreasing at all. It just wasn't something very different gameplay wise, when all other Mario games proved something for the system. It's a strong series, and other than the spinoffs, it is great.
SM64DS was an excellent introduction game to it, with great touch screen minigames, proving that the DS is powerful, and just so damn fun. NSMB is a great return to the classic Mario platforming without underwhelming visuals and, again, great minigames. Galaxy was one of the best games of E3 and reviewers played it again and again at different conventions and still loved it. Matt Casamassina expressed an undying love for it multiple times.

I think the Mario games have just been getting better and better (starting with the original and not including spin-offs). Not everyone liked Super Mario Sunshine, but that doesn't mean Mario is going to end. Super Mario Galaxy's controls are being designed so every type of person can play it and if you ask me, that's a sign that the Mario series is very much alive.

quote RobDaMan77Smash Brothers isn't a Mario game. It's a Nintendo game. And no it's not a dying franchise. Many could say the same thing for Pokemon like 5 years ago but what happen? It's still going and very popular. Mario has been going for over 20 years and is selling strong. Mario is one of Nintendo's biggest franchises. You get rid of it. Nintendo will most likely have less support. ------------------- ![]() "When you go astray, I'll be there to punch you back."

There are way too many spin-offs, I'll say that.
If we had more Mario games that were like SM64, that would be great. ------------------- ![]()

Mario is a character that Nintendo has re-invented and re-invented. The problem was not the lack of innovation, it was just Mario hogging up the series. Due to it just being one character, we got bored of it quickly.
I liked Sunshine, but many people despised it. I can partially see where they're coming from, considering it was nowhere near SM64. Highly doubt anything will be remotely similar to SM64, but they can make it a hell of a fun platform game with variety like 64 did. I don't think it'll ever die, but I think they need to slow down on the production. Mario Party just needs to gtfo atm.

Why is it most people are so anti-sunshine? It was a decent game! I think that Mario is going strong still, same goes for Zelda games, look how long they've been going!! They're strong as ever!

quote Chain ChompYes the game was enjoyable I can say that. But you compare it to other Mario adventures like SM64 or SMRPG. It definately looks bad. ------------------- ![]() "When you go astray, I'll be there to punch you back."

I aggree with the topic title I beleive it is becoming repetitive, dont get me wrong I adore Nintendo and I love Mario, I gre up playing those games but its time to bow out or make a drastic yet still appealing change to the series.

Mario definitely isn't dying. I think it's keeping itself in around the same place. In the middle it gets better, and then it gets a little worse, but it's not constantly going down. I don't think Galaxy looks amazing. To me, it looks like a decent Mario game (for some reason, Sunshine appealed to me more).
And I actually liked SMS more than SM64. I found it a lot better, in terms of fun, which is the real main thing about video games. The Mario franchise probably won't ever go down in my lifetime. Things have been a bit repetitive in the recent games, but I still find it fun. -------------------

Mario a dying franchise? No way. Mario is Nintendo's mascot. And as long as his dads around (Miyamoto) the Mario franchise will never die. There might be the occassional stupid Mario game but Galaxy is gonna be phenominal. Nintendo has done a great job so far so never stop believing.
