re: Is Mario a dying franchise? |

the mario franchise will never die. i mean cmon hes the greatest video game character of all time, every company wants to have a character that can last as long as him, but it will never happen. the way i see it, nintendo makes spin off games for a couple years then they always hit us with an amazing adventure, then the spin offs again then people kind of forget about him then a new mario game comes out and its like the biggest thing ever. so pretty much as long as the earth doesnt explode theres always going to be mario.

Thats what happened with Crash Bandicoot but it never got enough attention so they sorta stopped making them...
Now they've got Crash of the Titans and it should be good seeing as the last time they made a game was like 5 years ago so the expectations high and if it isn't good then thats 12 Million wasted... Poor starving Families could get new lives with that money... I hope Nintendo never dies or otherwise Sony will prevail in the fight for glory... ------------------- ![]()

It is dying slowly, so is Zelda. I don't know if it is my age and the fact that I have grown up with those games, but I don't see them nice like the N64 games.

Well the Mario franchise is a letdown since the N64 because of Sunshine in general. The Legend of Zelda is still the same concept. However, failed to improve since Ocarina of Time.
I think the Mario franchise is dieing. Mainly because Nintendo concentrate too much on the Mario sports and spin-off games then the original Super Mario games.

Mario is actually a rising franchise again. Look at Super Paper Mario for example. A great game that has taken some of the old Mario and combined it with new features in a genious way. I know many people who still love the old, classic platform games and not the advanced new 3D games with super-advanced controls and camera view settings etc which you especially find on Sony and Microsoft platforms. In other words, Mario survives because it uses the KISS strategy. Keep It Simple Stupid. The simplicity of the games makes it available for many more players than the new advanced games. Mario rules!

re: Is Mario a dying franchise? |
quote ConkerASkyJockey06Actually, most of the spin-offs are not made my Nintendo, but 2nd party developers. Super paper Mario, Mario Strikers, and Mario party 8 were not made by Nintendo, which a lot of people assume. So, really, I think Nintendo is concentrating on games such as Mario just as much as they should. I don't see the franchise dying anytime soon. -------------------

The franchise is making a comeback, and not in just the games. I see Mario merchandise all the time. It wasn't so commonplace a couple of years ago.
Besides, there are too many of us hardcore fans around that will let the franchise die. I need my Bowser fix.

How can you say Mario is a dying franchise? Sunshine wasn't the greatest game, but it certainly wasn't bad. Even if you consider it to be a bad game, that is one in a chain of several excellent games. Not to mention, the newer Mario games, such as New Super Mario Bros. for DS did very well, and Galaxy looks incredible.

Galaxy and Brawl will certainly boost the Mario franchise to new levels. Strikers also helped when Nintendo decided to add the online feature. every wii owner is awaiting the release of brawl and galaxy and when nintendo sees just how well the games sell, theyll keep coming out with bigger and better mario titles.

It's pretty hard to top the landmark game that was Super Mario 64, but that's partially to do with its simplicity. SM64 used the exact same formula as previous titles, 3-D aside. I felt that the franchise has tried to add too many gimmicks since, especially in Sunshine.
I suppose less is more in the Mario franchise. The popularity certainly isn't dying with new demographics constantly in the cycle, but the appeal is waning for those of us who have been present since the NES days. -------------------

No it's not a dying franchise, I've been getting in my "Mario Phase" lately, along with my "Zelda Phase" since I just got Phantom's Hourglass, that means I've suddenly gotten interested in his games, again, for example, sometimes I'm in my "Sonic Phase", while other times, I'm in my "Pokemon Phase", and others such as my "Metroid Prime Phase", "Kirby Phase", along with others, but right now, I'm in my "Mario Phase" and my "Zelda Phase", usually I'm either in my "Mario Phase", "Zelda Phase", or "Sonic Phase" since I like their games the most out of any game series I play.
Anyway, I say Mario is the best game series ever, along with the Zelda series and Sonic series, their games are by far the best, since they've been around for such a long time, and their old games have been the best games ever, and their games haven't died yet, and alot of gamers still like their new games, and they have been, they still are, and they always will be the greatest game series, EVER! The most popular game series: 10. GTA (though I don't think so, since all you do is shoot innocent people) 9. Megaman (I guess, since Megaman hasbeen around for a long time, I think) 8. Super Smash Bros. 7. Resident Evil 6. Final Fantasy (lately Final Fantasy's been stealing all the glory) 5. Metroid Prime 4. Pokemon 3. Zelda 2. Sonic 1. Mario Besides, Paper Mario games are offically my favorite games, ever, and Super Mario Sunshine is pretty good, too! What I'm saying is that Mario's not a dying franchise, his games along with Sonic's and Zelda's have been around for a long time, now, and their games are still fun to play, Mario, Sonic, and Zelda, FOREVER! *light shines and music plays* ------------------- ![]() Awaiting people to stop putting Awaiting Moderation Tags in their banners

I know Mario is the face of Nintendo, but if they wouldn't abuse him like they are, then the franchise wouldn't die down as fast.
