What is this game's "thing" |
|
I heard this game was the best game of the years when it came out for 360, but i played good 3 hours and i still don't get the fuss is about, i'm thinking about getting this game or far cry but only one out of two. I'm more leabning against bioshock since it was best game of the year. So what makes this game stick out amongs all the fps? is it the shot thingy where you can lighting, fire w.e power? or is the story that amazing? all i know the story is that guy made a city under water because he got sick of government oppersion or something... is there more to it? do i have to played system shock to fully enjoy this game?

Well I beat the game yesterday and to be honest I've no idea what all the fuss was about. I think because it was a 360 exclusive all the 360ers put it on a pedestal just to rub our nose in it.
It's a good game but not as good as everyone claims. I thought Resistance and COD4 was better to be honest. -------------------

When you said "thing" I thought you meant the "big twist" obviously no spoilers, but the first time I played Bioshock my mate told me the "twist" and I was like "meh, I could have guessed that would happen" ...
But knowing a twist didn't put me off buying it, and I reckon the reason it's so popular is the Plasmids. I mean, I'm sure there are other games that have done similar things, but the Plasmids are kinda amazing. -------------------

I've got it under rental right now, honestly it's a tad boring. I don't understand what all the praise was for to be honest; it doesn't feel all that innovative, and the graphics aren't amazing like they were all raving about.
I agree, I think the only reason 360 fanboys creamed over it was because it was their exclusive. Now that it's multiplatform, you would not realize how many threads there are of 360 fanboys saying how boring the game is now. ------------------- quote Ace Combat 4 Shattered SkiesThe Scapegoat of Neoseeker

any of you heard about that spiderman game? i'm pretty big fan of marvel (spiderman is my fav character) it just what kept me from getting that spiderman game was 1. it comes out day after bioshock. 2.bioshock was awarded best game of 2007 and usually spiderman game is boring after you beat and know the story, and also usually it is not very good game. So what you think spiderman or this game?

This game by miles.
The story is amazing and the depth is really awesome when you get into it. I admit it starts of kinda slow but near the end you will feel immersed. ------------------- ![]()

quote MnmfanLOL. Okay, Bioshock a lot better than those titles, but they aren't even very similar to one another, so the comparison is quite funny. Still, either Sony *bleep*ed up the game when they brought it over to the PS3, or you guys don't know what you're talking about. Bioshock had one of the best "atmospheres" of any game over the past handful of years, the tonic/injection system was a blast, story was good, and combat was fun. -------------------

Oh I agree the atmosphere is astounding especially the sound effects and the story is great too. I just don't see why it was being hailed as the best game since sliced bread. It's good but not that good.
Why is the comparison funny? They're all FPS. -------------------

quote MnmfanAgreed. Dyne, Sony didn't mess up, and we're not going crazy. It's just that this game was given maybe a bit more credit than it deserved. ------------------- quote Ace Combat 4 Shattered SkiesThe Scapegoat of Neoseeker

Dyne I'm not saying Bioshock is crap. On the contrary it's a great game. I just don't think it deserved all the praise it's been getting. The whole tonics thing has been done before in Elder Scrolls. Granted it's not the same but it is very very similiar.
A few things I didn't like about Bioshock are: Every single chapter involves doing the same thing. Find X amount of components which of course are scattered throughout the level. For example, find all the components to make the EMP, kill 4 people for Cohen and take a photo of their body and return, find all components to make the Big Daddy suit, etc etc. It was all very similiar each and every time. Constantly going to a a gene bank to swap tonics was a pain sometimes (wasn't a big deal on Normal but I'm playing Hard now) and buying slots to increase your capacity was also aggrivating at times. To counter those points I'll list some of the things I did like in the game. Whether it be the sound of heavy breathing behind you, something falling nearby, a shadow up ahead that runs away when you get near or metal clanging sounds that turn out to be nothing. The game did a brilliant job of keeping you on high alert at all times. I lost count of all the times I've been fooled into thinking I was gonna be attacked any second only for me to keep walking but then nothing happens. That plot twist near the end. I couldn't believe I was fooled by that. I remember thinking 'no way, how could I not have seen that one coming?!'. In hindsight it was so obvious because it happens in many games ie so I should've seen it coming but for some reason I didn't. The AI. I was really impressed with the AI. I remember shooting at a splicer and he hides behind a wall. So I waited patiently for him to show himself but then I heard him running and a couple seconds later he attacks me from behind (he actually went around to get me from behind). That really impressed me. In most games the enemy would just run at you but in Bioshock they take another route to get to you. Very clever indeed. On my first playthrough I saved every one of them. however now I'm my second playthrough I'm gonna harvest them all. When I harvested a little sister for the first time I actually felt guilty and was tempted to reload and save her instead. That just goes to show how well the developers have made you actually care about the characters. So like I said, the game is great on so many levels but at the same time I was hoping for more. -------------------

Good writeup mnmfan.
I've only just started the game and not really been able to get into it yet, I really dislike shooters that don't have regenerating health as I just can't be arsed with managing health packs.

I got both BioShock and Far Cry 2 at the same time, and both are great games.
Mnmfan summed up Bioshock quite nicely, so I'll cover FC2 for ya... Open world free to roam around, getting in/out of buildings and vehicles is done seamlessly in first person view. Complete day/night cycle. Weapons' condition changes during the game, use a weapon too much and it may get jammed. This is true for your enemies, too. Keeping yourself healthy is a big part of the game, too. Got shot? Take your Leatherman and dig the bullet out. Fractured your arm? Snap it back to right position, and apply a splint and a bandage. Etc. Every healing action is activated simply by pressing L2. There are quite a few vehicles in the game, from jeeps and boats to the paraglider. Sometimes you'll have to repair them before they can be used, but thats easy, too. Haven't tried the online modes yet, so can't say anything about them. And then there's the map editor. I'm working on a map currently and I can say that the editor alone would be worth the game's price tag. It's awesome. There's trophies, too. -------------------

quote Solid_Snake88I knew about the spoiler and still bought it... It doesn't take from the experience, besides, there's Trophies,4 difficulties and (eventually) "Challenge Rooms" so it's got lasting appeal. -------------------
