Why no melee attack? |
|
I really love this game, but one of my biggest criticisms is the lack of a melee attack (not talking about the wrench). Easily my favoured means of dispatch in FPS games is getting in close with a shotgun, blasting the enemy and ramming my gun down their throats a couple of times to finish them off.
It's a pretty standard feature in all FPS games these days so I don't know why 2K didn't include it in Bioshock. I know you could switch to the wrench but it just isn't as intuitive or free-flowing as if a melee attack was added as a face button. It didn't really bother me as I was playing on normal difficulty because it was easy enough, but now I'm on survivor mode I really wish it was there, as you get rushed down by splicers and often need to reload just as they get right on top of you. Anyway, rant over. Only a small criticism, the game is still epic.

Mostly because Bioshock isn't an Action game nor an FPS. No idea why it was moved, but it should be in the RPG section. This game is an RPG through and through, with a few FPS elements. It's sort of similar to Fallout 3 in that even though Fallout 3 has FPS elements, it's truely an RPG.

Well yeah I guess you're right on that, it isn't a true FPS. Though I wouldn't say it's RPG through and through, there are grey areas and it's open to individual interpretation.
Whatever it is a melee button would have made the game better.

There's always Bioshock 2, maybe 2k will add more melee weapons for number 2.

you can't say bioshock is rpg just because you upgrade your ability and you collect money. rpg is a game where you can fully upgrade your character in to however you want, hence all the upgrades you have to do in rpg game (str, speed, endurance, etc..) I'll just call it a fps with great story, i mean ut just like half life... but with upgrade

re: Why no melee attack? |
quote Solid_Snake88Actualy being a RPG isnt necessarily based on the ability to upgrade. RPG- Role playing game is a game where you take over a character that typically evolves over the course of the game. Of course that definition seems pretty broad but its typically for games that you haved the main character talk and have personallity. In shooter games you take control of a character, but they typically dont speak much nor do they really have a purpose beside shooting everyone and killing them. In any case you could really call any game an RPG as your taking a roll of a person, unless its a RTS game. But we can typically tell if its a true rpg (the ones we're accustomed to) with its story, battle elements, character movement, and so on. With that said I dont think bioshock is really a typical rpg game. I wouldnt call it an rpg-action game either. More like a action-rpg though. Even throw in an adventure element in there aswell. -------------------

re: Why no melee attack? |
quote KrunalIts not an RPG whatsoever... calling it so would like be saying "if you like final fantasy you will like bioshock, both are RPG's" It is simply a FPS with substance, being able to check bodies, and read notes does not distinguish an RPG. And quite simply, in bioshock you do not play a role, ergo you cannot roleplay.
