Atmosphere

As long as i can remember i have never been scared in a video game, i have played games that i have thought twice about entering a room but not once has a video game scared me. BioShock seems to be the first, the atmosphere and the enemies just make me jump all the time. Does anyone else get this same effect while playing this game?

re: Atmosphere

I completely agree with you. This is the first game, that actually made me wanna stop eating before playing haha. and I love how scary it is, its perfect. this one time, it was early in the game, I was walking over to a stretcher that had some ammo or something on it and I swear to god, the room was empty, as soon as I picked up the item, I turned around and BOOM a scientist splicer was standing there, Idk how long he was there, but its like he was waiting behind me the whole time. I screamed "WTF?!?" and just start swinging the wrench randomly. This game is awesome, I can't wait for the sequel, even though I haven't even beat this one yet, lol I'm still kinda early.

Oh cool what part of the game are you exploring like location wise, if you can remember i am still playing through the game for the first time and getting scared by so much, this game is perfect. I think my biggest scare was when i first saw the Big Daddy really angry, i can't remember what i did but it wasn't happy with me and i have never being so in fear of my characters safety seeing this big metallic yellow thing charging full speed at me, it was really something special and i still get the same dread everytime i have to fight one.

re: Atmosphere

I don't remember the exact name but I remember it was near the place where you'd most likely get the "Toaster In The Tub" trophy for the first time, because I remember getting that trophy short after. But you know what weird, I'm still early in the game so maybe its not a problem, but I've only seen 1 Big Daddy, and he was out of reach, and he was angry! thankfully not at me Big Daddies are frighteningly awesome, the kind of enemy you'd love to scare you, you know? I first got that feeling when I watched the demo video {which is the video that comes on at the title screen, when you leave it idle for a moment}

Ah i know where you are thats cool hehe, yeah i know what you mean about the Big Daddy. That is what BioShock does so well it's nice being scared by the game as the enemies are just so good.

re: Atmosphere

man if the first one is this good, imagine what the sequels gonna be like damn, could imagine how scary a full-length movie would be I picture the same director/creator as the "Saw" movies doing something with it. lol I'd buy it sure, but I'd probably never watch it alone, at night

re: Atmosphere

I can only hope the sequel is this good, though a lot can happen between now and when it releases. I am looking forward to the movie though, last i heard Gore Verbinski the director of The Pirates of Carribean trilogy was doing the movie, but that could be one huge false rumour.

re: Atmosphere

There are two types of scary games:-

1) 'monster in closet' types where the only scare comes from things jumping out at you when your not expecting.

2)psychological ie silent hill, shadowman.

Bioshock does the monster in closet well, but the atmosphere itself isnt too scary at all.

Atmosphere

I disagree there i don't think there is just two types, this game isn't a pyschological horror but it is atmospheric in the sense that the area feels lived in and that it used to be an idylic hotspot. The music also adds to the atmosphere and while there are a lot of set pieces that allow for more obvious scares it's the whole walking around and then the jukebox suddenly turning on thats scary in this game for me anyway.

re: Atmosphere

It is Atmospheric, but its not another to scare me tbh. Sure I was on edge a few times. But nothing scared me.

re: Atmosphere

It sure is creepy.

Aint done much of it yet though. Cant remember where i am but I played the whole demo, and i got the full game for christmas. Haven't played it that much yet, in fact im sure i went further on the demo!

But yeah it is pretty creepy. Just things in general like the little girl towards the beginning humming a tune while jabbing at some dead guy's head with a syringe while you creep slowly past above them
