I am taking this opportunity to make this thread since the forum is really new and I don't think many people know about the Hundred Years' War, I think it would be a nice idea and we could have fun.

Early Origins(911–1314)
quote
The background to the conflict can be found 400 years earlier, in 911, when Frankish Carolingian ruler Charles the Simple allowed the Vikings of Rollo to settle in a part of his kingdom known afterwards as "Normandy". The Vikings, known as Normans and led by William the Conqueror (the Duke of Normandy), conquered England in 1066. They defeated the Anglo-Saxon leadership and installed a new Anglo-Norman power structure. William took the English throne as King of England. The Anglo-Normans at the height of their power during the 11th Century controlled Normandy, England, along with Maine, Anjou, Touraine and Aquitaine. However, in 1216, the Anglo-Normans lost most of their continental possessions to France, leaving a situation in which most of the English nobles in the 14th century were recent descendants of the Anglo-Normans, who still spoke a version of French, and could remember a time when their grandparents had ruled Normandy. The nobles had never fully given up the dream of one day reconquering their homeland in Normandy; it was a very rich land, and England stood to become very wealthy by retaking it. The war was both a "national" desire to re-take a former kingdom, and personal desires on the part of the nobility to gain wealth and increased prestige

---
I consider it more complicated than the Late Han Dynasty/Three Kingdoms. The Sengoku Jidaii(Warring States) is more complicated than TK, but not as much as this. Even though you can see that the conflict origins earlier than the actual battles, this one is more complicated. In China you have the weak and corrupt dynasty, but you have a central power, even if it's weak. In Japan you have the Emperor, who was just a figure head and the Shogun who was the real ruler, and landowners who defied him, deposed him, took his position, etc.

In Europe at that time you didn't really have a central figure, Europe wasn't/isn't even as big as China, it's tiny compared to it. And in those times you had barbarians, clans, kingdoms. It wasn't the Europe of the 16th Century & foward where you had already central powers, established kingdoms, and most of the nations that stand today. After the Roman Empire fell people started getting former roman lands and fighting each other for more power. The Pope was the only real figurehead, he could send armies, demand things from kings, etc. You would had been better off on his side than against him.

There was no United Kingdom, they were separated places and enemies for most of the time. England got Wales around the 1400s and later united with Scotland centuries after. The spanish were fighting the moors/muslims and throwing them out, later they were divided in 2 kingdoms which later united to become Spain, Portugal was there. There was no united Italy either, but states & kingdoms.

One thing that I am really curious is what people will be in the game, will KOEI do a good enough research like they do with other games?(DW/SW). I don't really know much, many know one of the most famous ones though, Joan of Arc.

  • Are you interested in this period of history?
  • Are you looking foward to it?
  • Do you think it's a nice move by KOEI?. Stepping out of Asia & all?

I trust Koei's ambition in making good games, and they chose an auspicious time to open the game, because the PS3 was coming out.

So i'm pretty excited about this game, it'll be like Dynasty Warriors with a new flavour!

Dynasty Warriors with a new flavour - that sounds interesting - Hmm, I'll choose Lu Bu, but give him a lance, and full plate armour, change his name to Charlemagne, and there we go.

Still, as long as it's a chance to kill Froggies, you'll have to stop me getting it

        Simplified -

        Britain was an Island.

        France was invaded by Vikings.

        These settled in Normandy.

1 Battle of Hastings later, and Britain took over Normandy. Or rather, Normandy took over Britian, then became and English King, so took over Normandy.

Late 1400's, continental France (Gaul) attacked Normandy, and other Norman lands on Mainland Europe.

Normans wanted it back. Frankish people wanted to keep. They have a fight. It lasted a fairly long time. Around, give or take a few, 100 years.

The Americans. I think it would be pretty obvious, otherwise there would no longer be the British, if the Frogs won.

i heard there are elephants in this game... doesn't sound too historically accurate to me... not to mention a few samurai, and they make up characters plus i hear they make the black prince girly. but at least you get to kill those Frenchies. Why do they have to screw around with history? Well who knows? At least this game involves killing countless men i love that in a game... that and a hilariously absurd amount of carnage/violence/blood/gore. I am a weird kid... One more thing, China is not bigger than all of Europe... however it is pretty damn close, Europe: 10,180,000 sq km, China: 9,326,410 sq km. England and France were not the only ones fighting this war: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hundred_Years%27_War of course everyone else except burgundy were pretty insignificant in the war. the damn frenchies won. therefore i have come to this conclusion: i am a huuuuuuuge nerd.

Im really interested in this period in history and I am a bit bummed out that Koei has messed about with it and put in Elephants and other things. But I love playing as the Skullcrushers in the game
    They are some scary mo-fos.

And of course Koei had to include Samurai in the game

If I am not mistaken the House of Valois won the war in the end by driving the English out of France.
