The finer points of the Loop checkpoint |
|
Ok, time for everyone's favorite trick, the LOOP!!
Now, to start with lets get one thing straight. One of the biggest mistakes you can make when going for a loop is to always try to be facing the checkpoint youre trying to loop. That sounds stupid, I know. Let me explain. The websling mechanic works in 3 ways. 1. You aim your left stick left, you fire left and swing. 2. You aim your left stick right, you fire and swing right. 3. The kicker. Youre trying to go STRAIGHT. This means your webline could go left, it could go right, hell, it could go to thin effin air. You dont want that kind of randomization in a race where timing is everything. So the best thing you can do when approaching your loop, is keep the building youre going for just off to your left, or just off to your right. This way, when you aim the stick that way, youre sure to get one the the guaranteed extremes, swinging left or right. If you push straight, theres just no telling where you could connect. Next, try to get as close as you can before attaching. Normally on the swing before, try to cover as much distance as you can, saving your midair jump for the very last. Then, once you make the jump, fire your webline for the shortest possible line. This way, it takes very little time to actually do the loop. One boost at the bottom can loop a short webline. For longer ones, even a well timed boost can still require a boost recharge and second boost to loop. That costs precious time. If you screw up, attach to the building you need to loop from with wall crawl. Crawl toward the point you need to loop from, tap jump to just barely leave the wall and then initiate your swing. Youre already there, so your web will fire right to it and you can then get your loop done quickly. Those are some basics, Ill add more as I remember them. Im just getting back into it, so im still a bit rusty.

Ha!
You couldn't have come up with this a year ago? How about a WEEK AGO when I was still struggling! Seriously, I have all the races done, but this will definitely help anyone who is struggling with the hard races. I think I sort of "intuitively" figure this out on some level, because it got to the point where I was getting the loop checkpoints and the orbit as well, but I was NOT 100% sure how I was doing it, if that makes sense. I am going to try implementing what you wrote here, only doing it consciously with intent, rather than just blindly on an unconscious level as I did through these races. ------------------- ![]() It's official. Well, part of it was because my dad was completing the game at that time and I didnt have it, and just trying to go from memory is sometimes tough.
The 3 points of websling mechanic just sorta came to me when I was replaying the tutorial, and I noticed that when you go straight, or try to, the game decides where to fire the web, and not you. Thats bad. You want to go left with the swing, or right, and this way youre prepared to go that direction. In the last attempt to give advice, I think I put in the saving of the midair jump to the last possible second and trying to go for a shorter webline with the loops. I guess they just came to me easier because Im more of a swing left/right guy than swing straight. My dad was more of swing straight and trying to figure out why he was firing webs all over the place and im like "Duuuh, I dont know." It never hit me until replaying the swing tutorial that the mechanics for going straight are different, and mostly random. Then the wallcrawling to the loop point I figured out right about the time of the wallsprinting. Stick to the wall, get the bearings, and since youre right on the wall to start with, as soon as you swing you will attach there. Its not as time saving as hitting the building in stride and doing a fluid loop, but it beats not being able to do the loop at all.

Yeah, I tried some of this while webslinging and it works nicely. I still find it a little buggy the loops in this game, though.
