Some people say it is Peter Vance that dies

IMO the Vic Vance from vice city('86) and the one from vice city stories('84) look too different, Lance doesn't even mention him in Vice city. In Liberty City Stories there was almost no difference between the toni Cipriani from LCS and the one from GTAIII.

I think it's Pete, because why would Rockstargames make a total new game (vcs), just to let the protagonist die in VC?
+ he has another accent than in vcs + he doesn't look the same + he doesn't like drugs...

Anyway, the discussion will go on untill rockstargames gives us more information

I didn't mean all the information in one game , I meant some information. It's very fascinating, in every gta game so far there have been returning characters, so we're able to collect more and more information about some characters. But you're right, rockstargames can't possibly give all this information in one game, it's also possible there won't be any returning characters at all in GTAIV, I hope there will be though. I also hope some of our questions will be answered, like: was it Vic or Pete Vance who died?
