**GTA3 Dodo Pilot Club & General Dodo |
|
Welcome to the Dodo Pilot Club, where all your dodo flying needs and experiences are to be processed. Enjoy your stay at the club and feel free not to make any new threads involving the dodo.
Here's how to fly, credit goes to Dynamite: ================TAKEOFF================ Get the Dodo on a nice, straight piece of road or runway, I suggest the latter until you are more experienced, then hold the "6" key on the keyboard. Accelerate down the runway while holding the button until you hear a scraping noise, then let go of the "6" button and the Dodo will start to lift off the floor. You must then quickly correct the Dodo and make sure that it's nose does not point too high in the air, or it will stall and you will fall out of the sky. While taking off, it is also a good idea to switch to the side view, as it will help you define when the nose of the plane is too high. ================TURNING================ Turning should be a gentle, calm motion and should not be attempted too quickly. You mustn't hold either of the turning buttons, as it will turn too quickly and you will run the risk of turning the whole Dodo over, which will result in you falling out of the sky. If you find that you have turned the Dodo too much, then you will have to correct the oversteer and turn the Dodo in the opposite direction. Turning is not that difficult once you get used to it, just remember to tap the keys and never hold them. ============GAINING ALTITUDE============ An easy way to gain altitude (height) would be to fly around the coasts of the islands, as the Dodo will be gaining altitude on it's own, as the nose of the Dodo will start to rise. Let it gain altitude for a couple of seconds, then tap "6" to level the plane out once more. Eventually, the Dodo will start flying at it's maximum height and it will stop loosing height every time you turn. ===============LANDING================= When landing, make sure that you are level with what you want to land on and let go of the accelerator, then start tapping the "9" key to make the Dodo's nose rise slowly. Do not press the "9" key to make the Dodo's nose rise, or it will rise too high and land like a helicopter. If you are doing this right, the Dodo should be gradually loosing altitude and you should be coming in level with the runway/road that you are landing on. When the Dodo touches down, apply the brakes and the Dodo should come to a halt. If you follow these steps, I am sure you will be flying the Dodo for as long as us! Cool El Ray, I'm going to add this to the topic listings
I use the Grass right next to the main runway instead of the runway because it gives you unlimited time to take off most of the time. What I mean by that is that you dont have to lift off right when you see the sparks, you can wait a while

BY the way, just as an aside, I was VERY pleasantly surprised to see the Ghost town! LOL for some reason I thought that they would edit that out of the PC version. I guess either it is still somehow needed for the intro sequence or Rockstar just rightfully felt that many GTA 3 fans would really enjoy it in "PC resolution".
Also has anyone noticed that the glitches in the flying are mostly GONE?!! In other words, NO GAME FREEZE when flying too far off the southern coast of Portland, Shoreside or Stauton, the computer just turns you around and brings ya back pointing the right way. I was also AMAZED at the graphics detail when flying around Liberty City. Man the PC version has some SHARP lanscapes!

I followed the instuctions above but something goes wrong:(.
when I hear the scraping sound or when I see the sparks I release 6 and my plane jumps of the runway into the air. then I qiuckly tab 6 to correct the dodo but the dodo tarts to slow down and after a few sec. my plane is going down. Its like the dodo hasn't got enough hp to take off and gain alt.

its in shoresidevale, the third level of the game, after you complete the mafia missions eventually yull start working for donald love who will give you the mission grand theft aero in which the bridge to shoreside will be opened and you go and get the dodo, then after that mision you can get it anytime at Francis International

i'm sorry I have to double post but i'm afraid no one would notice my question on the botttom of the list if I edited.
well anyway I just got the dodo thing down I reached the dodos ceilingsomehow I crashed anyway:| well after that fun experience I decided to take on ghost town when I reached portland I some how hadn't reached the ceiling yet well I turned left my dodo started to turn STRAIGHT up into the sky and I almost had to hold down 6 to keep it level well I got pass the mountain it didn't look like the water was going to end and then I saw on the radar "chris'stown"and "gary's town. then I hit the boundary and bounced back then the dodo turned STRAIGHTup again even I was holding 6 and then the thing froze on me. sorry that was so long but when do I turn west for ghost town? ------------------- "I was court-martialed in my absence, and sentenced to death in my absence, so I said they could shoot me in my absence." - Brendan Behan
