The comswitch 7500 does not automatically connect my fax machine. I want to be able to have it differentiate between my answering machine and my fax machine without having to be here to manually enter the code (from my phone)to switch it. I also do not want to have to have my answering machine message state that "If you are sending a fax....". That was the reason I bought it, and it is not working. And finally, I still want to receive phone messages as well as fax messages when I am gone.

My fax machine has different settings which allow the fax machine to automatically pick up. Check your fax owners manual.

does your comswitch requrie "distinctive ring" service?

It says you need to set it for Auto, and on a single line you may need distinctive ring.
