PC Gamer UK edition - WaR info |
|
Picked up the UK edition of PC Gamer today as it had a 6 page spread on WaR, general chat without any specs or anything but it threw up some interesting stuff I was unaware of, so I thought I'd share in case folks where also unaware.
They are aiming for a release date in March, although the Mag is of the opinion it will most likely be delayed again more likely summer possibly till autumn. Trophies seem to be the marker of how good you are and not insanely powerful gear that makes it practically impossible for folks not in said gear to have a chance against you in PvP. - This I'd be very happy with and I hope it means although there will be some very nice top end gear we won't have the stupidly powerful upper tier gears that make other lvl 70's who don't raid or pvp non stop a chance in the battlegrounds. Trophies are apparently all sorts including skulls, scrolls and so on, and are visable on the character. You can dye your armour, thus although styles per class are very similar you can still come across as your own person. A huge one for me is that you can NOT, repeat can not pass through opponents, this is Huge, it means a Tank is a tank, 'you want to kill the healer, fine you've got to get through me!' - this is something I'm thrilled to see in action, but it might explain why a Stealth mode has not been implemented for any of the classes according to latest rumour. According to the guy interviewed, you can PvP your way to lvl 40, do not have to ever do a quest.. not sure how that will work, but thats what they said. I'm sure for some folks that will be awesome news. The log records your kills, thus if you find a quest that requires you to kill 30 Goblins, and you've killed 50 in you log (or 30, just liked saying 50) then you auto meet the requires of the quest, no need to go kill a further 30. The Public quests can be that opponents in the racial area are trying to complete a quest against one another. The example they gave was the Orc side getting booze for a Giant, then protecting him from squigs before convincing him to blow up a fortress. Meanwhile in the dwarven area the dwarf players are trying to get a cannon working to fire upon the village the Giant is in and slay him. To me that sounds like a lot of fun Basically from that info I'm generally more excited than I was already, this is really starting to look interesting. ------------------- ![]()

opposing quests seems nice, I would like the idea of that appearing in and out of PvP areas. So that in some cases you can slay the opposition but some quests its simply about whom can do them the fastest kinda thing...
Being able to get to level 40 via PvP is ok, I'd rather have it tho so that doing both PvP and PvE levels faster then either PvP or PvE seperately... or doing quests... etc... but that would be a tricky thing to actually implement. ------------------- Signature's FTL!... err... wait... ooohhh... too late -.-.

opposing quests...thats PvP, but you get the quests from NPCs. so it could be anything, like "slay 15 squigs" for Order and "protect 15 squigs" for Destruction, and whichever side completes it gets the loot? thats badass!

Thanks for sharing the information, MZL.
Hope you don't mind, but I'd like to clarify on a couple things: quote Master Zhang LiaoOh, it's not just a rumor. The developers have explicitly stated that there will be no stealth class, ever. At least not in the sense of turning completely invisible. quote Master Zhang LiaoYou actually get experience points for killing people in PvP. The enemy players even drop randomly spawned equipment--though it isn't their equipment, just stuff spawned by the game. They'll probably give experience for various objective-based aspects of PvP, too.

cool, thanks for that Dine.
You've obviously read a fair bit more than me, so I'm wondering if you know.. Do players have to flag themselves pvp? Or like with WoW will there both pvp and pve realms as otherwise I see a gank fest coming for new players and lower alts, as higher alts could happily go round slaughtering lower characters for equivilent gear for their or other players alts. Okay the guy in the mag insists you can pve to 40 without ever doing rvr stuff, but I'm just interested if anyone knows anything more about it yet. ------------------- ![]()

as far as I can tell it's based on Zones, as I was on about above with PVP areas, what shinobi_razor also seemed to have missed. The area you stand in effects if you are in PvP or not I believe and nothing else. The higher level zones have more PvP areas then lower levelled ones I do believe however, so the higher the level you get, the more PvP you will naturally become anyway.

np, also one thing, I think based on dominance of areas, some pvp areas will open up/close down but again I think that will mainly be higher levelled zones, so that you basically move the pvp areas closer to enemy cities until eventually you can do a PvP raid on the enemy city and try to capture it. But I am not certain on it, I am just saying what I assume they meant from the videos on the official website.

in PvP areas, you dont have to flag yourself for PvP, you can get attacked any time. but any area that is not PvP would automatically be PvE, right? can you then flag PvP and fight if you want?
