Freedoms?

I'll admit to not having read everything on Warhammer quite yet, so I was wondering what the thoughts are on any sort of Freedoms within the game? For example, in an older RPG I played, a character may warn you that they do not want you to go through a door. A lot of recent RPGs will stop you from entering there or will lock it and not allow you to go in there until you are a higher level, but from what you could do in the old RPG is just unlock the door with a theif and wander on in. It might be the gate to a massive monster which can wipe out your team or you might be attacked by the friendly folks for breaking into the tomb of their icon, but you could still do so in that game.

Do you think they will allow similar things to happen in WAR? Is there such a thing coming about in that game that I missed (which I expect the brains here will mention to me about =D)? Would you like such a thing in this game?

re: Freedoms?

Ahh, I get what you mean.

Honestly, your freedoms as a player are completely unknown right now. But I predict a traditional MMO set up, where you can go anywhere, but you have a good chance of dying if you wander into high level areas. You probably won't be able to enter instanced content unless you are a certain level.

I doubt they will have much of what you're looking for on this subject, but it would be cool if you could break things, steal, go into places you aren't supposed to, and get in trouble for all of it.

re: Freedoms?

That was amazing when I could do that before. In a lot of RPGs all I could do was talk to someone in a tavern. The same was said in the older one I played, but you also had full access to all your spells and action menus. One time I was bored and began using Magic Missile, Fireball, and Acid Arrow on folks in a Tavern and everyone with a sword tried to attack me while the others ran away. =D I dunno if they'll allow it, depending on how all the opposing factions and stuff works, but that would be awesome.

I know in games like Lineage II, if you go off and kill another playing to get marked and others can attack you without much detriment (other than possibly losing) and it's something I'd like to see happen to some extent. =D

re: Freedoms?

considering the lack of a theif like class, I highly doubt any lockpicking will be appearing as such... maybe everyone gets a lockpicking skill or something as a side skill... who knows as of yet =P. But I am guessing the way the game appears to be spread out you can wonder from PvE to PvP areas quite easily so I am guessing exploring will not be too hard, and I am guessing whilst you get more powerful with levelling, the jumps may not be as 'large' as other MMORPGs... could be wrong tho.

I am guessing it's pretty much gunna allow you to free roam else wise but if you do free roam you run the risk of getting shreadded to pieces either by the enemy army or by the normal creatures in the area.

re: Freedoms?

Yeah I believe the originally in-house Warhammer Online would have allowed that kinda thing Mishtram, sadly that is long gone, and althoough I am impressed by WAR, the original would have really had the chance to smash WOW as it was so danged interesting in so many ways.

I think as WAR is concentrated on the PvP aspect more, they'll be less of that, which is still my big concern, PvE realms on WoW have exploded in number and I do believe more folks are looking at PvP as something they can do on their own terms, partially why I raise an eyebrow on the choice to make the new WoW expansion so PvP heavy.

Will be interested to see what freedoms we do actually have in the game though.

re: Freedoms?

I think the lacking of such freedoms would be to further the whole 'Realm vs. Realm' aspect of the game. They don't really want you stealing from your enemy, they want you killing your enemy! And stealing from your own kind would cause hostility from within, which would lessen realm pride, I think.

In a game where allegiances lie with guilds and you can kill anyone you see (regardless of their "realm"), such freedoms would be quite an important part of the game. But that is simply not what WAR is trying to become. Age of Conan is more suited for those "hardcore PvP'ers" who would regard every WAR fan as a "carebear".

I believe WoW's expansion pack is 100% targeted at WAR. It is one last desperate attempt to cling onto people who actually enjoy PvP and are sick of WoW's so-called "PvP". I hear they may even be adding a "Tome of Wisdom" to the game ... shameful.

re: Freedoms?

I don't really think they are gunna allow you to attack people on the same side, because it's war an' all, and there are no theives as such, but meh =P. I wanna rampage all over the choas city =P... bring order to the choas XD.
