Dragon Quest Monsters is a spin-off series that shares the Dragon Quest name. The DQM games aren't really anything like the Dragon Quest titles, other than the fact that they share the same character designs and animations. An easy way to remember the difference between the two is that in Dragon Quest games your party consists mainly of human characters, while in Dragon Quest Monsters you play with a party entirely made up of, well, monsters.
