I would assume so. The monsters have more HP, meaning they take longer to kill.

It's definately harder, as monsters have a lot more hp (not as noticeable early on, but really noticeable later) and hurt much more.

yes, Dullahan is a freaking monster on hard mode.

I haven't played in a while and the last thing I played was hard mode, What I remember is that all the bosses up to poseidon seemed significantly stronger... Sometimes the boss would actually take a try or two. Then it would ease up until you come across the optional bosses where they seem much tougher than normal. In fact in the beginning you sometimes dont even want to get into a random battle especially if your party is beat up. But thats more so in the beginning or when you get the ship and accidently bumble into an area meant for later like Treasure Isle or The southern tundra etc.
