It is ok. You are doing nothing wrong. It is just you have to be REALLY fast to beat him without drawing blocks in front of him.
 I also have a forum on this game asking About fav. and least fav. bosses. You should check it out. | |

In case you missed the meaning of that, you should draw a block in his path whenever you draw one to help yourself through your course.
