re: A *REAL* Fix for Win2K.

I tried your instructions to the letter, however before it would let me update the registry, I had to save it so I did. Your instructions make no reference to this. Was I supposed to do that? Anyway, I did it and got through the first race of evolution then about halfway through the second race, the whole system crashed and rebooted. I'm currently running XP Pro SP1, Athlon 2500 @ 333, 1.5Gb DDR @ 333, four 80Gb HDDs(RAID 0)@ 133, two 60Gb HDDs (SATA RAID 0)@ 133, ATi 9700 Pro AIW w/128Mb DDR and SoundBlaster Audigy2 Platinum. I haven't tried the patch from your ftp yet. Do you think that would help?
Thanks

re: A *REAL* Fix for Win2K.

Help if you can, please

I'm running the game on Windows 98, and it hangs on me in the menu screens sometimes, and the car gets "stuck" going forward, left, or right quite often, and the keyboard stops responding.

I have directx9, the latest nvidia drivers, a fast system and plenty of ram - will this patch work for Win 98? I'm thinking maybe it's a bug in the game relating to my TNT2 video card.

Patch didn't fix my problems in Win 98 (above). Still looking for suggestions for game locking up.

Forget the above request

I fixed the problem by running the DirectX diagnostic tool (dxdiag.exe) and switching my hardware sound to "no acceleration".

It does't work. I installed the 3,5 patch and i did what you sain in act. But it is the same. I can;t enter the game because it stops at the first picture, that with the car and the "Need For Speed Porsche 2000 "logo. The hdd works like crazy but it stays there.
What can i do to play porsche on xp???
Please answer...

re: A *REAL* Fix for Win2K.

Anybody??

Know it is a poor question, but does it work with the No cd patch provided earlier in this tread??
To anyone lecturing me about buying the game. Did that when it came out. Thats a long time ago and cd is now broken. The game just rocks and found out by reading some sites that I had a couple of very good times on some tracks. Anyone in for a 1:52:xx replay with a 911 turbo on Pyrenees?
Help me and I will prove it!

re: A *REAL* Fix for Win2K.

I'm currently using WinXP and have apply the ACT patch, but the game is not working. So do I really need to update my WinXP with Service Pack ? I'm very eager to play this game.

Just amazing, Waccoon!
Followed your instructions and used some logical thinking on my own, I got nfs-pu working under XP Home SP1a.
Running with P4-2.66/1024/Radeon9800Pro.

re: A *REAL* Fix for Win2K.

Here is what I did:
1. Updated to 3.5. Did it manually.
2. Patched with 'sdbinst.exe PU_Patch.sdb' in another directory than the game is in.

No windows98-compatibilty-mode needed and didn't delete gimme.dll.
The game runs even better in winXP than win98.
Very Big Thanks to Waccoon.
Only minor faults are the low resolutions on textures inside the car.

EDIT: and one more thing. I did not use act26.exe at all. Futhermore, I applied the pu_v35_c.zip by Waccoon as well.

re: A *REAL* Fix for Win2K.

sambowie, where do you put the 'sdbinst.exe PU_Patch.sdb' patch ? From my understanding, that 'sdbinst.exe PU_Patch.sdb' patch is for the ACT. But you said you didn't install the ACT.
