re: A *REAL* Fix for Win2K.

This is shit, I still can't managed to get it run properly. The good news is it's able to be loaded to the Main menu after creating profile. After that, the program shut down automatically after I try to start a race. Please help if anyone know how to fix this shit. Thanx in advance !

Thank you Waccoon!! You really saved my day! I've been trying for a long time to play this wonderful game on win2k, and I had almost given up. Now everything works like a charm, I'm playing peer-to-peer and everything!

Thank you!!

I installed act26 then I setup a patch but it didn't work.
The startup screen stays the same.

Any ideas?

P.s
(what do you do in the last step of the patch setup wizard?)

re: A *REAL* Fix for Win2K.

Does anybody know how to get rid of low resolution textures inside the car???
Textures were normal when I used my old PC ( 300 MHz Celeron, 128 RAM, VOODOO 3 16 MB, WIN XP PRO )
But on the new one they aren't! (P IV 2667 MHz, 512 RAM, GeForce 4200 Ti, 128 MB, WIN XP PRO)
Any solutions? Please...

re: A *REAL* Fix for Win2K.

Hi everyone.

I just got a "Logitech Momo Racing Force Feedback Wheel" for Christmas, an after some time testing it with Colin McRae Rally 2.0, I thought it would be nice to try it with NFS Porsche Unleashed.

I knew that there are problems with w2k, and I also knew that there was this "fix": deleting a specific file.
So I googled a bit, and found another thread:
http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/index.php?fn=view_thread&t=8506

OK, let me describe my problems, and what I have already tried to fix them:

1.) I launched NFS PU without doing anything special. Just hoped it would already run fine with W2K SP4.
-> game crashed to desktop without any error-message, last thing I saw was the loading screen

2.) renamed "gimme.dll"
-> nothing changed, same effect as described at 1.)

3.)Changed swapfile to 256-256 MB, tried with and without gimme.dll
-> still nothing did change at all (just found out later, that there is this problem with more than 512MB RAM)

4.)Tried the registry tweak for defaulting video card settings
-> nothing changed

5.) Successfully updated 3.0 to 3.5 using InvisiBill's batch-file method (strange thing, there is no more info about NFS PU available at EA sites, but they still have this update online )
-> sadly, my problems did NOT dissappear...

6.) Tried Hardfloor's step-by-step guide, to use compatibility mode under w2k
-> interesting thing, if I enable compatibility mode, then windows kills NFS PU with an excecution error right before the splash logo can even appear (no matter if I use w95 or w98 compatibility mode)

7.) Found this thread and tried Waccoon's Guide for using the Microsoft ACT. Maybe I got something wrong, but I couldn't fix my poblems.
-> same problem as Nr. 1.)

8.)Installed Waccoon's patch, finally something changed
-> game now crashes back to desktop after splashscreen dissappears, I don't even see the intro now.

Has anybody any idea what else I could try? I finally ran out of ideas

I will try to uninstall everything and try it again from start later this day, this time using manual update, hope it works, 'cause I don't know what else I could do.

Here is a detailed system spec of my main sys:

OS:
Windows 2000 Professional (German) with SP4 and all current security patches
Game:
Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed (German) (Version on my CD is 3.0)

Hardware:
Athlon XP (T-bred) 2200+ @ 2400MHz (12x200)
Abit NF-7S rev 2.0 @ 200MHz FSB
1GB DDR400 RAM (low latency noname stuff)
MSI GF4 Ti4200 64MB (detonator 45.23 driver)
n-force2 soundstorm onboard-sound (audio driver 5.10.2920.0 I don't know, what exactly the version Nr. is)

nothing else special, using onboard LAN, no other extension cards...

Best regards from Austria, I hope I can get NFS PU running again
