hi there, its me again
(I hope there is still at least somebody reading this thread) I just came back from a local electronics-market here in Vienna, guess what I saw... There is some kind of new "Need For Speed: Porsche" ("unleashed" was never part of the german game title It's called "40 years of 911" and as far as I can tell, there is also a separate 2-disc audio compilation bundled. It is sold in a metal box (looks like those small boxes for cigarrettes, just size of a normal cd-case). What's so interesting about that? System requirements printet on the back say: "Operating System: Windows 95/98/2000" I'm not interested in buying this stuff, because a) I won't pay another 30€ for the same game again b) the audio compilation is a copy-protected CD and I won't buy one of those "corrupted CDs" I just think, that there has to be a way to get the original NFS PU running on my w2k machine....

I've done a bit of testing on XP with various makes of PC and managed to get most of the freezing/ crashing back to desktop that people have described. It all seems to relate to the version of the Porsche.exe you run. Different ones work with different hardware. If you have a problem try a different hacked.exe. I've found about 5 different ones so far. All Hardware has worked with waccoons patch.
Best way to do it seems to be install Porsche. Do the 3.5 update and see if it runs. If it doesn't try a different hacked.exe (like waccoons 3.5C patch). If it does run, but graphics are jerky then install Waccoons patch. Running any 95/98/2K compatability mode just makes the game run slow. Don't turn it on. 10 out of 10 to Waccoon. That patch is brilliant and certainly does work on the 5 systems I have tried (and I swapped components in these system to check).

After more testing found that Waccoons patch can get Porsche working if it freezes at splash screen, or crashes back to desktop. Looks like it is capable of fixing nearly all ailments.

Wow. Been a long time since I visited here.
I'm still making minor updates to the patch, and in particular I'm trying to fix the stupid blurry texture problem. There's a few things I should point out: 1.) The patch will work with any version of Windows, however, it may NOT work with international versions of the game. If you're playing a USA copy of "Porsche Unleashed", the patch should work. If you're playing "Porsche 2000", or a version sold outside the USA, the exe checksums won't match, and Windows may actually refuse to use the patch. You're only recourse is to download Microsoft ACT and make a patch yourself. 2.) If you're getting massive slowdowns, try removing your joystick and playing with the keyboard. USB joysticks REALLY seem to slow the game down, especially in the options menu. 3.) I recently upgraded from my GeForce3 to a Radeon 9800 Pro, and am now suffering from the blurry texture problem. Fonts look fine, however. I'll do some more probing to find out where this problem is. I made a minor update to the patch. It is now back in its usual place, after a bit of a screwup made it unavailable for a few days: http://www.ninechime.com/Junk/pu/ ----- Feel free to e-mail me about the patch and stuff. Hello.
I've installed Wacoon's patch and this upgraded update 3.5 and it works on XP PRO SP1. But there is music only in menus, not in game so what should I do to have music in game?

Assuming the music volume is set properly, check the playlist. If the playlist somehow is empty, no music tracks will play in the game. It's also possible that your computer is running out of memory and the sound system is not working properly. Try reducing your sound quality.
BTW, I just updated my patch again with some new instructions.
