VC: A Best Seller's Display Case? |
|
Virtual Console, clearly, is a really great feature to the Wii. I am under the impression that Virtual Console is for older gamers who now have the ability to play their favorite games again, or for newer players who have the chance to experience these games for the first time.
My question arose when Ocarina of Time came out and caused such a stir. Personally, I would rather not see games like this on VC, for a few reasons. First, you can already play OoT on the Wii if you have the gamecube disc. Why spend the money on a "virtual" game when you can buy the real thing and still be able to play it on your Wii? More importantly, everybody knows OoT. Everybody has played it a dozen times on both the N64 and then again when it was re-released on the Gamecube. The same goes for games like Super Mario World or Super Mario 64. You can play those games already on current systems, so why spend the time and effort into making them available on Virtual Console? I'd much rather see games that you really can't get anywhere else, like Super Mario RPG or Cool Spot 7-Up for SNES. I realize that OOT and Super Mario World are excellent, classic games, but everybody knows that and everybody has played them already. Give some of the other games a chance and stop using VC to archive Nintendo's best sellers... -------------------

Why would putting Zelda: OoT be a bad thing for the Wii? I didn't even have a gamecube, and when I had an n64 i didn't buy it, so ive played it for the first time on the Wii, and its great. As for spending money... its only about 10 bucks which is nothing.
And there are still going to be alot of games which will be released in the future... so its likley that 5 years from now VC games will still be released. -------------------

The only reason I didn't purchase OoT was because I was too impatient and was lucky enough to snag an original copy and an N64 a few months ago. I never had an N64 before then, I had a PS1. I would have downloaded SM64 if I didn't purchase it on the DS, but for a person who didn't, then they can and should. I hardly remember SMW so I downloaded it.
Not everyone had an N64. In fact, most people didn't. It's sales were pathetic in comparison to the Playstation. You might have had an N64, but others did not. The N64 sales were around 30 million worldwide, the Playstation had well over 100 million. I was just one of those people who had one. NES and SNES classics are, well, classics. I don't have my old NES or SNES anymore and I grew up with games like Super Mario and Donkey Kong. I downloaded them, best seller or not. I don't have them anymore and haven't played them for years, I want to re-experience them. By the way, OoT Master Quest for the GC was never a widespread title. You had to have pre-ordered WW to get it. They are limited and you can't buy them in most stores. It was a limited time deal.

You don't have to have a N64 to play those games. You can play all of the Mario games on a Nintendo DS already, and if you don't already have OOT in some form, chances are somebody you know does and would be more than willing to let you give it a try. Whether or not you've played these games before on their original systems is not the point here. I would like to see the Virtual Console used as a tool to be able to play games that you otherwise couldn't. These big titles that have been released lately are all widely available and played, and it seems like a waste to add them to yet another system.

If you can keep releasing something and people keep buying it, then do so.
It's not a hard theory to put into practice. When I get enough points this will be the 4th copy/version I will own of it, and eagerly hope for a DS version. -------------------

I played OoT for about 5 minutes when I was 8 and never played it again so I`m kind of glad that it was on the VC. Yes you can purchase these same games for other system but playing them doesn`t feel the same. I`d rather play the original with all of its flaws. The Masterquest disc wasn`t sold in stores and the only way you could buy it was by pre-ordering WW.
Plus having these games on the VC introduces these classics to young gamers without a DS or Gamecube which is actually quite a lot. Nintendo shouldn`t really care anyway (glad they do). They`ve made over $1.5 million just on VC game sales. ------------------- ![]()

There is sort of a point I can grasp and that's playing games you've previously played isn't as great on a different console. I've seen things like this on the Xbox Live Arcade and they just regurgitate old Atari and Arcade games, it's terrible. But when original content, like Geometry Wars comes out, it seems better.
The VC should just come out with some full out original VC only games ------------------- ![]()

I agree that the VC is a great release... the Wii is the first console that I have had Since the Snes back in the day, so I get a chance to play all the games I missed for that reason
