I was online and i joined my friends game just when he finished, then it said gamehost left but continued to show his score and said he aced the level and got the japanese headband. when I went to my pod it turned out that I got it as well. Was that a glitch?

Not sure I would call it a glitch, since the same thing happens if they get an item bubble that you didn't already have but they did......they get the points and you get the item.

Any items gotten in Multiplayer games are shared between all players. That's why people tend to co-operate when going for 2 player challenges.
