SUBJECT |
|
I'm not sure how much this has been discussed, as I haven't really followed Smackdown! game discussions in quite a while. This is my idea. If a ring takes enough slams, if The Big Show jumps off the turnbuckle a few too many times, shouldn't the ring show some damage? Think of it this way, it's Big Show versus Andre, each man has been slamming and super-plexing each other for a good hour, not to mention all the chokeslams, powerbombs and whatever else they do. So, after long enough, shouldn't the ring give in? I'm thinking Taz - Bam Bam style, where a hole is made, and for the rest of the match, there's a huge gaping hole right there. Or perhaps Big Show - Lesnar style, where the ring posts fall in, and you finish the match on a flat piece of canvas. Maybe even the random botch. Does anyone remember when Y2J when for a lionsault and the rope snapped? If some ring malfunction could happen one out of every 100 matches, wouldn't this throw a great new element in? You think you have the match nailed in the dying seconds, you try to hit a springboard senton and SNAP! the rope cracks and you land on your head, KOing you, leaving you as easy picking for your beat down opponent.
Just keep in mind, I don't want this happening every third match, this is one of those little things I want you to see maybe 5 times if you play 350 matches. Albeit small, I do think it's the little things which make a game great. This message was edited by HBK619 on May 30 2008.

I'd love this. It'd be one of those really seldom-seen things that really make specific matches memorable, and being able to save it in a replays section would be great as well.
For me, the surprise element can turn a good game into a great game; a good match into a fantastic match. I remember on SvR06 in a cage match when I was about to escape, but suddenly the opponent leapt up to the top and German Suplexed me all the way to the floor - stunning stuff. The difference is, the cage scenario above was brought about by a very rare situation happening in itself - that is, I was inches away from escape (one leg either side of the cage) and my opponent, Chris Benoit I believe, just got up at the perfect time to bring me down. The ring itself, however, is constantly being used in almost every match variety, so it'd be very difficult for developers to assess the exact criteria for a ring breaking. Two big guys in a superplex is an obvious one, but obvious isn't what we want here. I'm doubtful that random botches involving the ring itself would occur, but perhaps moves themselves could go wrong depending on the timing and positioning of their execution; not just aerial moves being missed, but springboard attacks (with lightweights have at their disposal when near the ropes in this game) going wrong due to starting them too far away from the ropes, and a badly timed RKO leading to Orton falling flat on his arse while the other guy remains standing. As far as breakage goes though, I feel that a greater scope for cages and hell in a cells is more likely that the ring itself.

I would love to see it but I doubt in the ps2 version although theey could add botched moves.I remember one time Jerhico had somebody trapped in the walls and Randy attempted a RKO but slipped off. Then as Jericho was standing up Randy got him. That may happen in the ps2 version.

Yeah, ring damage would be a nice aspect. I'd love to see Kane Chokeslam someone straight through the canvas and under the ring.

The only problem with that is, how would they get back out when they're obviously in no state to climb? You'd have to reach in and lift them out, giving them time to recover. It'd work well in KO-based matches like Last Man Standing though.

I like this idea, ring damage after some 100 matches or so sounds like a lot of fun I can just imagine it right now, *Jeff Hardy is on the top ladder and, Johnny Nitro is on the table, Swanton Bomb!!!, Threw the table and the ring!!!*, yeah that sounds nice.yeah.

Also it would be good if in cage match somehow the cage was broken, like if say Shelton Benjamin was going for a splash while his opponant was groggy on the ropes, and the opponant did a drop toe holt good enough, then the cage would have a head shaped hole in it, which could later be expanded, and mabey a way to escape.

This seems too much to code and too little value out of it. I can only remember the ring breaking twice in the last four years. Why waste space when it could be used for other purposes, the ring usually is not meant to break and it shouldn't. the most I would like to see in ladder matches is a possible dent, but there can be other ways to express damage e.g. the announcer's table(s)...

It would be a nice add-on, though I doubt it will be added. I would enjoy watching Brock Lesnar destroy the ring by pulling Big Show off the top ropes once more. Too bad they aren't in the game. -------------------

It would be pretty tight to have the ring break or the ropes come out of the turnbuckle every once in awhile. Like once every hundred matches or so. It would definitely make the matches more interesting.

I don't like this idea. As the ring rarely breaks in real life (One time springs to mind, when Brock Lesnar superplexes Big Show and the whole ring collapses

I remember when this happened between Brock Lesnar and The Big Show. If they brought it into the gaming series it would be great, but I can't really see them developing it because their pretty lazy.
