Drums Question

I bought Rock Band with the drums about 3 weeks ago brand new from gamestation (I'm in the UK)

When I got it, I was a bit annoyed to discover that I have the EL model drums, which I heard were the old ones that break easily and aren't very sensitive. I've tried taping pennies to the sensors inside using electrical tape (by following the youtube guide), but that hasn't seemed to have made any difference. However, I can't seem to get the pennies to stay still in the yellow and blue pads because of their different appearance. I find after taping pennies to the Red and Green sensors the drums seem to still miss the odd note seemingly randomly. But I still haven't come to the conclusion that this is the drums fault, as I am still pretty new to the drums and aren't very skilled at it.

Is there anything else you can suggest that would improve the sensitivity of the drums so that I didn't have to hit them as hard and they registered all my hits? I'm not sure whether to try duct tape instead of electrical tape to see if that makes it any better. Also, can you buy new drum pads to make them quieter without compromising the sensitivity on the EL model?

Thanks for your help in advance, and sorry if this question has been asked several times before.

re: Drums Question

I saw a video of a guy that puts socks on the face of his drums and holds them to the face with rubber bands. It increases sensitivity and decreases double hits. It might be weird but its your best bet.

re: Drums Question

Yeah I heard about that but I read somewhere that it only works on the QM model drums, because it decreases sensitivity too much on the EL set, so it'd probably register even less hits.

I'll probably give it a go just in case I suppose. If it doesn't improve it I can take them off very easily. Thanks for the advice GoBrave95

tbh, I'd just like a drum set that registers hits properly when its supposed to. Personally I don't think that's too much to ask considering they're £70

re: Drums Question

Personally I recommend leaving the pennies out of the drum kit,

the EL model to me is best left untouched, because with expierence with my EL model, the more I tried to modify it, the worse it got overtime]

E.X:
-I tried pennies, the drum kit registered a double hit on certain spots on the red and green pad.
-I taped it together, pads were TOO sensitve

Maybe the sock mod is your best bet? I've never attempted it, but see how the EL model goes for you untouched, I personally can't complain, I would say it registers 95-98% of my pad hits.

re: Drums Question

Actually the sock mod does not work on the EL model for the same reason the tape mod doesn't work; it makes the pads too sensitive.

He's got a point. Why is the drum set alone $80 when it doesn't even work? I might as well pay $80 for a used condom.

re: Drums Question

Well I went out and bought some official (I think) Drum Pad Silencers. I was annoyed at first because they were sticky ones instead of ones that would clip over the normal pads.

Having tried them they seem to be a lot quieter (which is a huge bonus) but every so often they seem to miss notes. Atm though I'm chalking it down to them not glued on securely enough and hopefully if I keep using them they'll get better. They're also a hell ofa lot easier to wipe dust off and prettier too.

So a good buy I think, but thats another £15 to add onto the drums, which I probably shouldn't have needed to spend on them in the first place. I'm still pleased with them though
