The old PS2s(like the first ones that came out) have problums reading the purple disks.This happened to me too so I got anouther one.

I got one of the first PS2s in walmart I never had a problem with purple disk

My PS2 wouldn't play these disks either. But if you learn how to clean the laser that reads the disks it works again.
