[Suggestion] Leave comments open for longer than 15 (?) days |
|
I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but I personally think comments shouldn't be closed (and articles archived) after just 15 days. Many conversations in articles last longer than two weeks, and it's a shame when they get cut off once the article is archived. There are also times where I have stumbled across an article just a few days after it has been archived, and would love to put in a comment but it has been closed. Two weeks isn't really that long, imo.
Maybe leave them open for 20 days? Or even a month? [color=#666666]This message was edited by Gothic Girl on Jul 29 2008. -------------------

Tbh I don't really support, it doesn't really bother me, the articles don't need to stay open more than 2 weeks. There shouldn't be a full blown discussion within the articles anyway. Its not forums.

Well, what if it's really that interesting?
And making it open for 20 days doesn't mean it would turn into a forum. Game grep mods could also close it for comments when they see that it's really full. So why not? ------------------- "Can you meet me halfway?"

^ Exactly. There are plenty of instances where I have had absolutely fantastic discussions in a Gamegrep article.
I also don't recall there being a rule that said these types of full-blown discussions weren't allowed or were discouraged. -------------------

quote Final BladeWell you seem to have full blown discussions in almost every article to comment on, FinalBlade. Rune :: You missed what I was getting at. They have full blown discussions worth reading, while the majority of your discussions are full of shit. [size=1][color=#666666]This message was edited by Rune Ripper on Jul 30 2008.

LOL Really RR? You know nothing, Seeker and Deadman has more full blown discussions, Jmac and Storm and LordMaChao and Tiger of Wu made two topics spike to 50 comments and 100 comments one time. Me I rarely comment on gamegrep now as it is. Your accusation is laughable at best.
Like I said I don't believe the original purpose of the articles is to have a full blown discussions for more than the time period of comments allowed. Its just how the system works atm. I just don't see the need for it. ------------------- Welcome to Crisis Core forum Welcome to Bad Company 2 God of War 3 official forum community

You actually do get in arguments more than anyone, and if 12 comments in on day is "rarely" commenting then I think we need to change our idea of "rare".

I'd like to keep comments open for much longer periods, even up to 2-3 months or longer, but we have to tweak our rating algorithm to ignore the comments that are posted after the scoring period. There is NOTHING WRONG with articles that go on and on like forum threads, that type of participation (assume its not just bickering) is the whole point of a community social news system!
The main reason we designed them to archive themselves to begin with is that on Neoseeker, comments open too long become targets for spambots. These bots intentionally post in old articles because most people won't notice. So this is more of a "habit" for us. On GameGrep this appears to be less of a problem and we have more moderating staff who can help spot such problems I think. PLus later when we have a proper "report" system the entire community can spot and flag down such shady spam posts. ------------------- The further back you can look, the farther ahead you can see. <paraphrased> - Winston Churchill

I suppose you could set it up in such a manner that articles over 15 days old will get archived if there's no "recent" activity in them. Say...2 days without a comment or something like that.

quote RedemptionI didn't think of that reason. However I did feel you had a particular reason for archiving them. Which is a good reason, don't know when this could even be implemented. ------------------- Welcome to Crisis Core forum Welcome to Bad Company 2 God of War 3 official forum community
