There are already various places on Neoseeker where we are supposed to post articles, videos, and screen shots. Now, here is another place. There should be some definite integration with the portals, the Neoseeker main page, and every single platform page. The front page of Neoseeker should carry the "hot" stories.

Plus, you added a whole bunch of points that don't seem to have much use except for bragging rights. We got posts, neo-points and now these... but still no use.

Well on the cross integration idea, something similiar was suggested here. I do agree it might be better if things were integrated more, though Gamegrep is only in beta at the moment so there could be future plans for this sort of thing.

Actually the "bigger picture" for GameGrep is for its content to be integrated into the CRS. This second half has not been completed yet. The idea is if you submit a review to GG it will submit to Neoseeker's database. If you post about new screenshots and they aren't crippled with watermarks they can be imported into the game's screenshot list.

The plan, tentatively, is to retire the portal news system and instead convert portals to use GameGrep news directly. This would mean that portal news administrators actually post their news on GG and it will show up in the portals.

Eventually if it makes sense Neoseeker's own news system will be supplanted and replaced with GG's system, thus integrating the whole thing altogether.

Your suggestion of showing the headlines in more places on Neo was conceived even while we were planning GG. What you are witnessing now is an evolutionary stage, and we're working out just what plans we will keep and implement, and what we will NOT keep.

Points integration is not something we were planning on doing. There's always the option of course. Things can be changed and nothing is set in stone, as is always the case with community drive sites .

PS. About integrating with every single platform page, I was going to do this on Monday but fell behind on other bug fixes for Neo and GG. In fact I was just trying to figure out how to clean up the platform pages. Trust me when I say we're still working on implementing things we've wanted to do to integrate the content, this is not the end of it.

One thing that I toyed with during the conception phase was to actually make news on GG use the forums itself for comments, but have it integrate right into the display of the news. This would create a two way effect:

1) News would show up as threads in the appropriate forum
2) People who reply to those threads are actually commenting on the news.

I wasn't sure how this might impact users so I didn't pursue it seriously. That option isn't out of the picture though, since we could always convert from one to the other.

It would make more people post comments to the news stories because there are so many members that care about their posting count and won't take time going to gamegrep, which they could otherwise use to 'spam' the forums... You know that this will also bring much unwanted content to GG as the usual spammers will make it their new playground and abuse it in any way they can. To limit this you can integrate the neoseeker bans system into GG, so that when a member is banned from Neoseeker, they cannot post on GameGrep either (be it news or comments).

I think the points will end up like a post-count on Neoseeker. So many people have over and more than 10,0000 posts that it's really no longer that big a deal. Eventually, if GameGrep is successful, a lot of people will have really high points and the quality of news could start deteriorating.

I like the idea of using the forums as a place to comment. We wouldn't want the forums to be overrun with news articles though.

Hmm I see it having the opposite effect really, using post counts as an example, when people care about how many posts they have it usually doesn't increase but infact decreases the quality as they just want as many as possible without caring so much if the posts are good or not.

With Gamegrep points, when people don't think it's as much of a big deal they may infact post less but better quality news articles.

What I meant was once a lot of people gathered a lot of points, it wouldn't be a big deal for other people to strive to get to the same point.

I guess when I picture a community I don't picture "points" and when there are points it makes it seem as if there is something to win. If they are going to have no use, you might as well just label it News Contributed.

The "point" scale will only go so far when trying to get people to contribute just like NeoPoints. After all those people have all those points and people see there is no use, contributing appears to be useless.

Luckily, there are a lot of people on GameGrep that seem to be posting just to contribute to the community which is a nice and maybe makes my suggestion stupid.

I see where you're coming from but the problem is if people stop posting news because they don't see the need for points anymore, with not having a points system in the first place those same people wouldn't see any need to post news up at all anyway. But I guess that's why as you said in your first post having a use for the points would be good.

When it comes to integration with portal news, will news still have a similar screen on the portals or is it all going to be revamped into the "news description, quote and link" which you see on GG? Personally, a few things I see on GG I don't really want to see on Neoportals, but I can live with it. Will News Reporters continue to be part of the neoportal hierarchy?
