A while back somebody posted a video where this guy used a drill and a bottle to play guitar hero, and it got me thinking "what else have people used to play the game?"
Just today I turned a shotgun shell into a slide to help me do hammer ons.
Has anyone else used some everyday item to help them play or just show off?

You mean, other than bots? Most people don't bother.

I mentioned that cos helping you play is called cheating.

i use a Guitar Hero Controller.

and i've tried using a pick before, but that was bad.
and back when i first started expert, i used band-aids to help move my fingers quicker for fast HO/POs.

i did that, but i used duct tape instead

I tried that but the tape started to fall apart and got glue all over the buttons.

For me the items such as the shotgun shell or the duct tape are really only used because:
A.)I've given myself a pretty nasty blister on the side of my left index finger and they kind of decrease the irritation when I play.
B.)It's a different way of playing and has its advantages and disadvantages such as not being able to feel what fret you are on.
C.)It keeps the game interesting.

the "help" you refer to primarily pertains to decreasing personal injury. If you think this kind of thing is stupid then just shut up and leave; don't sit here trying to make yourself seem superior to everyone else.

Also its only cheating if you do it to compete.

Ever hear of a guy called f4phantom (or fcphantom depending on where you look)? He has an arthritic cyst in his fretting hand and he still uses it without external assistance. A blister is nothing compared to that.

I'm not decieving anyone as I'm coming right out and saying that I'm doing it. I'm not depriving anyone of anything by doing it. And guess what, I'm not using an application or password to do it. And you know what else is funny? For it to be considered use of a disallowed technique there would first have to be a universally accepted set of rules for all players that would explicitly state that it was not allowed. But there isn't and even if there were, in the end the game is my property and as such I can play it however I feel it should; besides my playing the game how I want to has no impact on any other players so I don't see what the problem is.

And don't give me this crap that I can't use an external device to play the game; it's still my 4 fingers doing all the work, the only difference is there is a thin peice of plastic seperating an open, bleeding wound on one of my fingers from the fret buttons. And I don't know how the hell you can compare a blister to an arthritic cyst. first of all i guarantee you that he is taking some form of medication to allow him to use his hand at least somewhat comfortably, otherwise he wouldnt put himself through the pain; the bone in the joint of my knee is infected with staph and basically rotting away, if his hands hurt half as bad as that does everyday then I can damn well guarantee you he doesn't do it with "no assistance from outside items" like painkillers. but listen if you still want to call a tiny ring of plastic around my index finger cheating then by all means go ahead and do it. Just please understand that I made this thread because I thought it might be funny to see what kind of wacky things people have attempted to do to make the game more interesting, this is by no means some way of bragging about a high score obtained by doing things differently.

i never worried about blisters, i played guitar for a year before gh came out, so i already had some nice callouses.

basically what happened was I was playing knights of cydonia on hard and I wanted to see how long I could keep the hammer on's and pull off's going by just sliding the side of my finger across the frets. For a while it worked pretty well until my finger started bleeding and I realized that I had rubbed off quite a bit of skin, which still clung to the frets.
Oh man though I tried wraping my finger in duct tape, using a whole paper towel role tied to my thumb and then finally an old discared shot gun shell laying on the floor of my room, that I cut down so it would rest far enough on my finger that it wouldnt fall off while still allowing me to move my finger.
But yeah I just figured why destroy my finger when I could get the same results another way. Plus it's basically the same principle as using a slider on a real guitar just much less complicated.
