The demos are out |
|
And they're just awesome. I'd never played GoW until today, I watched my friend but it didn't seem that great. Playing the demo, it's just fantastic. The graphics are awesome, the music is epic, it's brutal and bloody (hence the screenshot of the dead fat guy), and it's unlike every game I've ever played.
And here are my screens: ![]() Cool PSP background anyone? ![]() ![]() ![]() That last one could be better, I got some bad timing. I'd have to pass the demo again to see it again ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As you can see they're all GoW, they don't look like they've been restricted by the PSP, they're God of War all over. Look over them again, watch the backgrounds, the detail, the props and things. Like that guy with the arrows in his back when I'm on the ladder. -------------------

re: The demos are out |

Well, was any part of the story revealed? Can you describe the your playthrough?
Screens look great, but the quality fall quite a bit short of GoW2. I see that Kratos has magic (first screen) but I really don't know how they'll tie it in with the storyline, as these events were supposed to occur when he was bascially a slave of the gods, most of all, Ares. Somehow, I don't like the hilt of the Blade on the HUD, they should change that. I see that ships are a new feature, wonder where they'll take that. Plus, they've introduced the enemy life bar, which I don't find to be a good addition. I much prefer the GoW, GoW2 styles, where you had to hack at the opponent with o idea whatsoever how healthy he was. Very good, nevertheless, and I can't wait for the game. -------------------

Neither Ville_Valo nor I have played God of War games on the PS2, so we can't tell you anything about the story, except that you fight the Persian Army commander on the behalf of the gods I think.
The ships aren't really a new feature, you're just supposed to blow it up using a cannon near the beginning of the level. ------------------- ![]() Year of the Black Rainbow - 2010

I just watched the video of the boss fight against the Persian fatso, and let me tell you: that ending isn't half as bloody as GoW endings usually get.

quote z fighterWell, you start off on the roof. Some guys come, you kill them you shoot the catapult into the ship. Then some fireballs from other ships blow a hole in the roof you're standing on, and you jump down into the room. A monster comes through the wall, you fight it a bit, a bigger one eats it, you fight that, it runs off to cause some other havoc. From then on you're off to stop that thing. Eventually you run into the persian, who tells you that the people that sent Kratos should have sent more than a silly Spartan. So you kick his arse, and use the catapult to destroy his big monster thing. He was using it to basically clean out the city for an easy Persian invasion. Maybe it isn't as bloody as it's likely to be in other fights, but in an era where almost every game has content removed to open it up to a wider audience, a bit of blood and brutality is very refreshing. I mean, even NFS games have had the songs censored down hardcore to make it more kid friendly. Like it matters in a racing game, like they aren't likely to be exposed to that anyway... Jesus I can't wait for this game. Recounting the story made me want to play my part XD -------------------

It was a pretty short demo, and even on 333, it had some frameskip in areas where the camera turned quickly, but other than that it completely made up for it in graphics/playability balance. Definintely just as awesome as GOW1/2.
Not much is released about the plot in the demo, other than Persians are attacking Sparta, and Kratos has been sent there by the gods to stop them. Beating down that giant Persian boss was hilarious. Oh yeah, use cheatmaster's screenshot utility. SVCCapture kills the contrast for some reason. Cheatmaster's doesn't. ------------------- ![]()

Cheatmaster eh? Is that just a homebrew app?

It's a CF app, that's basically uber gameshark, but it has a built in screenshot feature. SVC capture is a standalone prx, but it wipes the screen with a video signal while it takes the shot. I assume this is why the images always appear bleached. (All the Crisis Core images I put up are through this method, and it generally looks blech in some areas. Contrast is on overdose)

I thought the whole packaging was pretty cool. It was kinda personalized with your name. Some weird little GoW symbol came with it. Something like a key chain.... The controls take some getting used to. I mean, a PSP controls cannot be substituted for a PS2/3 controls anyway, but it makes the most of it. I've played the other two and this one looks as if it will be one of the best games that the PSP will have to offer.

The controls pretty much used the face buttons, it wasn't difficult at all for me. This type of brawler works well with the PSP design. As I said somewhere in another forum, i'm surprised Capcom hasn't shown the PSP much love. Devil May Cry and Resident Evil, to name a few games, could do well on the PSP.

I haven't even played it yet because I don't have my PSP, but the packaging was beastly. Personalized with the name and the symbol with the customary Sony card advertising the $170 PSP to people who own the PSP. I felt special.

The demo is so awesome, from what I can tell from the demo, the game isn't going to disappoint. I loved how you smashed the Persian's head in with the chest, it was effing hilarious
