Little Rocket Man |
|
**Spoilers?**
Has anyone actually done this? I found the gnome. I found the rocket. The only problem is; They are at completely opposite ends of the game. You find the gnome in the first shack you come across, he's under the bed. The rocket is the- well- rocket that's pretty hard to miss. And then you have the car ride for about half the game, and no where to put him. So I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to get the gnome to the rocket. It's for fun, really, nothing I'm too concerned about. ------------------- ![]()

I've never played EP2, but from what I've heard you must carry him with you through the game. (You sure you can't put it on the car and drive carefully?)

"Little Rocket Man" is an achievement you get for putting the garden gnome inside the rocket and sending him to space.
But no, he'll fall out of the car. I don't really know how to do it short of punting him some distance, driving there, punting him again, etc. ------------------- ![]()

You can stick him inside the car but you have to drive really slow and keep checking on him. Oh and you only have to get him to the rocket and close the hatch for the achievement, you don't need to finish the game.

If you aren't making too many turns, the best method is to lay him flat on top of the engine. I found it to be helpful most of the time. And, the only real annoyance with him is when the chopper is shooting at you. Makes the bit annoying.
And I have an "LOL" moment at myself today. I went through the entire episode 2, carrying that stupid dwarf statue, only to forget to put him in the shuttle. So yeah, I'll eventually have to go through the entire episode with him again. ._. I dont mind. Episode 2 was amazing. -------------------

Ehhh well. Half-Life 2 is probably around 18-20 hours, with Episode One being really short, probably 2-3 hours.
Episode 2 is longer, about 7-8.5 hours. Will take a while since you have to carry around that stupid dwarf though lol. Still, its an awesome game. -------------------

quote DragonMaster_Dyneouch! i guess you just didn't wanna see him go. anyways, i've just gotten to the part with the car. my brother's played a bit ahead and he's stuck at the chopper part. can't seem to get gordon, alyx, the car, AND the gnome all in the same place at the same time without getting killed by the chopper. anyone know any good ways to wedge the gnome in the car? it'll stick pretty well in the rear window, but it doesn't quite seem solid enough to make it away from the chopper in one piece.

re: Little Rocket Man |
quote arachnophiliaWell, there's no "PERFECT" spot to put the gnome. My favorite spot was on top of the engine. You just gotta lay him down vertical, and as long as you aren't making a lot of sharp turns, you should be okay for the most part. Other than that, you can sometimes position him inbetween the driver and passenger seats, but he'll fall out eventually. -------------------

i saw someone online mention that you could use those big circular saws to keep him in place. anyone tried that? i'm gonna give it a shot once i get to the garage...
seriously, could they have made the achievements for this episode any more annoying?

After my first screwup, I just replayed the Episode with the gnome and got the achievement.
Really, its not that annoying. There are many places that you can leave him and return later to pick him up. And, for those who still need to do the achievement, when you place the gnome into the rocket, all you have to do is close the door and you get the achievement. EDIT: I'll have to try that idea with the saws though. -------------------

quote DragonMaster_Dyneit gets worse: quote DragonMaster_Dynedoesn't work. blades don't stick in the car, and if you can get them to stay somehow, they interact with the gnome's unique physics in strange ways. not mention that either that, or putting the gnome in the car before you can move the car from the garage in "under the radar" glitches it horribly. i thought it was sort of annoying when you had to get past the chopper with the gnome. no, when the floor of the car no longer holds the gnome, that's annoying.

I just played through Episode 2 and didn't see the gnome, though I wasn't looking that closely. I'll probably go back and get this and the "Putting on a Clinic" achievement sometime this week. I'm just glad you don't have to keep track of the damn thing during the fight with the Striders at the end of the game, that part was pretty damn difficult on its own. Those Hunters were bitches.

quote trendyskamanit's in the shack at the beginning when you get the transmission from mossman. quote trendyskamanyeah, thank god you get rid of it just before that part. 13 striders is crazy enough on its own. and then you add hunters. and if you're going for the neighborhood watch achievement.... yeah.
