I gave up on the Neighborhood Watch Achievement after reloading fourteen or fifteen times to get that first Strider that blows up the sawmill. That thing is impossible to kill in time.

Try develpor cheats. Its not honorable, but they helped me when my oringinal half-life 2 kept on freezing at key points. All i know about them is that they help somewhat and that they are complicated.

I heard somewhere that using the developer commentary disables the achievements. Is that true?

re: Little Rocket Man |
quote trendyskamanit's possible. i know, because i did it (after about a dozen tries). and i did it on normal, too. the trick is knowing it's coming, knowing where it'll be and when, and planning ahead for it. place the car where you're planning to kill the first strider. make sure it's facing the direction strider #2 (the evil one) is coming from, and it has a magnusson on the back. grab ANOTHER magnusson from the port to kill strider #1, and then as fast as humanly possible get in the car and high-tail it down the corner #2 comes around. it'll take a few tries to get the routine of bailing from the car, picking up the strider-buster, tossing it, switching weapons, and killing it down so you can do it faster than it's charging it's suppressor. i ran into two basic problems. either i wasn't quite fast enough (the strider dies, but not before the mill is demolished), or i tossed the magnusson over the strider entirely because it comes in so low. but it can be done. just takes practice. quote trendyskamanyes, and that's specifically why.

I can actually kill the first two striders no problem. Its after that where it gets tough. Because, you almost have to take care of the hunters REALLY fast, or you wont have a chance at hitting the striders with the energy balls.
I just can't save one of the buildings after the 4th or 5th striders. I keep running into trouble. quote trendyskamanThe first time through the game, I didn't put the gnome in the rocket when I had the chance, so I still had the gnome during that battle lol. I kept placing him at different locations, but the striders would always blow the area apart, and I'd lose him. I eventually just placed the little bastard at the entrance way of a tunnel. What a waste though. ------------------- ![]() Bruce Gradkowski's #1 Fan

Old thread, yeah, but I just started playing Ep. 2 to discover that the "Little Rocket Man" achievment is much, much more difficult than it usually is. Why? Because whenever you step on the *bleep*ing gnome, you are jettisoned across the *bleep*ing map, to what will surely be your *bleep*ing death.
I'm so pissed at that thing I can't even piss. Made an already tough challenge near impossible. Does anyone else have this problem? Could it be some kind of glitch, with a fix on the way? ------------------- *bleep*

I got the achievement and it feel freakin' sweet and worth it when you see him fly off into space.
Here's some pointers to help you out: 1.Some Levels You Can Leave Him At the beginning play the level and just go back and get after. 2.For driving him around just wedge him some place or wedge him along with a bunch of barrels and other items. 3.When racing DOG leave him outside, race the dog, beat him (to get the achievement) then just go back and get him. 4. That level where you have to go with that alien thing to save Alex(I can't remember what they called) leave the gnome with the other alien things in a safe place and play, he'll still be there when you get back. 5.When you do put him in the rocket CLOSE THE DOOR!!! I made the mistake of not closing it win the game and not getting it. luckily I save right before I put him in. So I hope this help anyone trying to get the Achievement and I tell you it's extremely satisfying. Send me a message if you find this helpful---> TheConsumation (Xbox Live only)

re: Little Rocket Man |
quote ConsumationBest advice ever. I remember, when the aliens told me to go get the whatsitcalled to heal Alyx, I brought the gnome along with me, and my goodness, he was a pain in the ass to carry around while that giant creature was chasing me through the tunnels, haha. I got through the bit doing it this way, but boy was it frustrating. ------------------- ![]() Bruce Gradkowski's #1 Fan

I think I may go back now and try this achievement and the Strider one now that my time with GTAIV is coming to a close.

re: Little Rocket Man |

wow, I just did my 2nd play through ep2 and I decided to try it on hard just for the heck of it, and of course being the cheater I am I turned on developer commentary. It was a pain in the butt to carry that gnome everywhere. I had to stop to pick him up I can't tell you HOW MANY times, especially during the chopper battle (I kept tossing him forward, driving a bit, then hiding under the train so I could pick it up again while the chopper was shooting at me, like I saw some kid do in a youtube video). The BEST place to wedge him is in the back window, there's a ridge where the rear windshield should be that (so long as your ride isn't too bumpy) should keep him from flying out the back when you speed. Only problem is severe turns and stopping too quickly.
Anyway, I was wondering why I wasn't getting the achievement when I put him in the rocket and lo and behold, I come here and find out my little cheating habit cost me. Grr, I am so frustrated. I don't plan on playing it through again ANYTIME SOON. :\
