Hi |
|
Does Half Life 2 have an AI partner, and if so is it through the whole game?

You will almost always have an AI partner, there are two specific characters throughout the game that join you. At times, you also have an AI squad you can control. However, there are some portions of the games and episodes where you must play alone.

re: Hi |

Not in the console version. AI-controlled teammates cannot be controlled by another player in a cooperative mode. If you buy the PC version, there is a Half-Life 2 Deathmatch mode that allows you to play deathmatch and team deathmatch gametypes using the HL2 engine, in addition to the countless number of "unofficial" mod gametypes, including Counterstrike: Source.
For the console version, the only online mode you can play is the Team Fortress 2 gametype, which is good for hours of fun anyway. Not to mention the fact that HL2 and its episodes are epic and will likely take you 70+ hours to play through by yourself. And believe me, when it's over you'll want to play through it again. ------------------- quote Overheard in Loungin'Deists: Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, John Adams...the bad history bug strikes again!

Go buy the game. This is probably the best game purchase I have ever made.

quote trendyskamanI just got the game yesterday and after several hours of gametime I've spent about 95% of it on my own. When do these AI partners come into play?

I can't recall too much about Half-Life 2 itself, but in Episode One (which trendy might have been thinking about) you have an AI partner for nearly the entire time.

re: Hi |
quoteI may have overstated the amount of time you have an AI partner, but once you've completed the first 25% of the game (which takes about 5-6 hours, if I remember correctly) you have a companion for most of the rest of HL2. As DMD stated, in Episode 1 you have a companion for most of the game and in Episode 2 you will be on your own for a bit but also playing with a partner again. ------------------- quote Overheard in Loungin'Deists: Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, John Adams...the bad history bug strikes again!

re: Hi |
quote linkrox15 hours for all three? That's a lie, but thanks. Although, I find it hard to believe that trendy spent 70 hours on the games unless he just had no clue what to do for most of the time. I remember probably spending 25-30 hours on all three. ------------------- ![]() Bruce Gradkowski's #1 Fan

Did you get the sand achievement? That one alone took me a good hour and a half. I don't sit down and play games straight through, though, which always impacts my ability to say how long I've been playing a game. It took me three months to beat Bioshock, but I probably didn't play more than 30 minutes at a time.
