re: Ouija Boards |

I'd answer that but being the huge skeptic that I am, I can't. I don't believe that a simple board is capable of communicating with spirits. Like you said, it's just a board.
And I came to this thread to raise another question about the board's use too. (Side note: I'm an avid non-believer in ghosts/spirits/whatever but I'm fascinated with the idea of ghosts and I want to believe. I just see too many flaws and not enough scientific proof to believe in them.) You all know that to use a ouija board, a small number of people place their fingers on the plachette and ask the "spirits" questions. Why must one put their fingures on the plachette? Is the spirit not capable of moving the object by itself? The problem with people putting their fingers on it is that 1) if you're with your friends, or anyone for that matter, someone is sure enough bound to be pulling your leg by trying to scare you and try to make you think a spirit is actually answering your questions and 2) Skeptics says that people can involuntarily move the piece themselves, believing that they are actually communicating with a spirit (read this source for more detail). Not saying that the source is 100% true but I choose to believe it. Just a couple flaws I wanted to point out.

well you do have a point there but as a beleiver i am going to argue back, yes people COULD be moving the glass but if people are doing that there is no point in conducting the experiment. real beleivers are too mature to ruin the experiment. as for why the fingers have to be on the glass in the first place, the ghost does not have enough energy itself to move the glass as after all it is only a spirit so fingers are placed on the glass so the 'ghost' can harness our energy to use it to move the glass. yes this probebly seems a bad argument but its all i got for now --Petz-- -------------------

It all depends on if you believe that it actually works. I myself find it hard to believe that anything happens but I'm a skeptic so I won't go about my ranting or anything haha.
Seeing as you're worried about him though and what may result from using the ouija board, it is common for people to say a prayer of protection before they ghost hunt, hold a séance, use a ouija board, etc. I read that St. Michael's prayer is a common prayer for ghost hunters to use and it can be found here. Suggest that he do that before using the board, if he hasn't already.

Ouija Boards are by far the dumbest, and most dangerous forms of communication with spirits. You can be cautious all you want, but anything can come from the other side, and once you invite something insane in, you can't just get it out. They can't come into your personal space unless you invite them, and by talking to them on the board you are doing just that. Calling them into your household, past your thresh hold and welcoming them to cause whatever havoc they want.

They are a very bad idea.
You can get possessed when you summon bad spirits, and they can also hurt you by doing things like throwing the glass or planchette at you. Just don't do one. -------------------

When is the last known case of someone actually getting possessed by using a ouija board?
Cause it seems to me that the only time something like that actually happens is in a movie.

quote Jax06The government over in the UK keep it hushed up, but there was actually a guy near me, did a Ouija board session at a haunted location near me, where poltergeists haunt, and he got possessed. Exactly why they have exorcisms. Using a ouija board, you're allowing a ghost to use your body and energy to move the glass/planchette. Who's to say it's not evil? It can get into and use your body this way. EDIT: quote super michaelI actually watched TAPS Ghost Hunters, and when they were doing the Charles Manson murder victims in that Hollywood house, they used a K2 Electromagnetic field detector to contact it. Light it twice for yes, once for no. They uncovered a lot. -------------------

Agia Eloyn Adonay Jessemon Sufficit I know sufficit is to end the conversation or to stop but what are the others? Sufficit is not around the start it under the star. What language are the words? they are in the centre of the board, in the middle is the star and around the star are these words. What do those word mean? Edit I forgot to ask what does Circuskija mean? This message was edited by super michael on Nov 27 2009. This message was edited by super michael on Nov 27 2009.

re: Ouija Boards |

There is no proof of possession scientifically. Until science learns to accept matters of spirit, there never will be. There is only belief and disbelief. People are always looking to science as if it is proof, but really it is a set of supported guesses. Even Laws of science have sometimes been changed or altered. Science relies on constants, whereas spiritual matters are never truely replicated 100 %. Skeptics ask for proof but never actually expect to get it, and when they are faced with evidence they deny it. Take tape recorders: when evidence is presented on tape, they say its residual recordings that have contaminated the investigation, when its on a digital recorder it is always under fire since it could be altered. Same with camera's. If you want proof, do research, and go get the answers yourself. That way you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is real.

so true sion, skeptics always find the little tiny threads(problems in this metaphor/simile)and pull them out to make a hole in a paranormal investigation.
